Job Description

Job Title: Family Engagement and Behavior Support Specialist Early Preschool

Reports To: PRINCIPAL

General Job Description:

Collaborates with Staff and Families to plan and implement programs and strategies that provide behavioral supports for preschool students across settings including home and school.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  1. Demonstrate appropriate skills in working with parents and families.
  2. Promote student success through support of parents and families.
  3. Provide crisis intervention services as necessary.
  4. Serve as a consultant on IEP teams.
  5. Consult and collaborate with building administrators and school based professionals to interpret student social/emotional needs assist with behavioral management serve as a resource for school staff including involvement in staff meetings professional development trainings etc.
  6. In collaboration with appropriate RISD departments provides coaching support and professional development to schoolbased administrators and staff to promote researchbased family engagement strategies with emphasis on early childhood and behavior.
  7. Assists in the development and implementation of family engagement programs initiatives and activities in collaboration with appropriate RISD departments.
  8. Assists in the dissemination of information on the districts strategic plan key initiatives other relevant information about RISDs programs/services and community resources to families.
  9. Uses a variety of multimedia and social media platforms to inform internal and external audiences about family engagement and behavioral support efforts.
  10. Knowledge and understanding of New Mexico Early Learning Indicator FOCUS Home/Family Visiting Guidelines Full Inclusion and Socio Emotional Development of Young Children.
  11. Knowledge of community partner agencies and ability to communicate effectively withpartner agencies.
  12. Conduct scheduled Family Visits under the Home/Family Visiting Guidelines.
  13. Maintain an active line of communication to keep teachers abreast of special needs or problems of individual students.
  14. Assist with special events during and after school hours for children and parents.
  15. Keep parents informed of program opportunities and services available at the school or within the community to support student academic and social learning.
  16. Establish and maintain working relationships with community service providers use community services to assess and provide for the needs of students and families.
  17. Knowledge of RISD Child Find Process.
  18. Collect data and write reports for grant purposes
  19. Work with families of children with and without disabilities and in foster care or homeless.
  20. Maintain confidentiality with sensitive matters.
  21. Work independently with very little supervision.
  22. May be required to perform other related duties/functions as assigned by supervisor.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

None

Qualifications in the form of experience knowledge skills and attitude:

  1. Masters Degree in Education Social Work or Related Field; Bilingual preferred.
  2. Early childhood or special education experience preferred.
  3. Have knowledge and evidencebased practices relevant to behavioral interventions and differentiated instructional methodology.
  4. Experience working with parents children and youth who are facing difficult circumstances
  5. Familiarity with community resources
  6. Strong oral written and interpersonal communication skills
  7. Valid Drivers License and Car Insurance

Physical Requirements:

Sitting standing lifting and carrying (up to 40 pounds) climbing stairs reaching squatting kneeling having full mobility of fingers/hands and moving light furniture may be required unless ADA accommodations have been mutually agreed on and does not create an undue hardship upon the district.

Safety and Health:

Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions (blood borne pathogens body fluids etc.

Equipment/Material Handled:

Must know how to properly operate or be willing to learn to operate multimedia equipment including current technology as needed.

Work Environment:

Must be able to work within various degrees of noise and temperature. Interruptions of work are routine. Flexibility and patience are required. Must be selfmotivated and able to complete job assignments without direct supervision. After hours work may be required. May make site or home visits when needed. May work under stressful conditions on occasion.

Employment in this position is contingent upon continued grant funding and the position will conclude upon the expiration of the grant. Renewal or extension of the position is subject to the availability of future funding.
