Make an impact at Serco
As a Third Officer onboard the RSV Nuyina youll ensure safe navigation oversee vital safety equipment and support key vessel operations. Working closely with the Master and Chief Mate youll be part of a dedicated team that contributes to the ships maintenance and safety protocols.
As a Third Officer youll make a positive impact by:
- Managing navigation watches and monitoring the vessels passage plan
- Testing and maintaining lifesaving and firefighting equipment
- Overseeing cargo operations and coordinating with shore teams
- Supporting training and induction for new crew members
- Ensuring compliance with Sercos Safety Management System (SMS)
- Participating in safety drills and emergency response activities

To be successful in this role youll have:
- Current Passport
- AMSA Certificate of Medical Fitness
- AMSAissued Watchkeeper Deck (Unrestricted) Certificate
- Dynamic Positioning Operator Unlimited Offshore (DPO) Certificate
- GMDSS General Operators Certificate (GOC)
- Security Awareness Training
- Advanced Firefighting (AFF) and proficiency in survival craft
- Experience in polar scientific or resupply vessel operations
- Ability to use ship operating IT systems and draft documents
- Ability to pass a Polar Medical
This is a position of trust and responsibility and to support this we will conduct a thorough probity assessment as an essential selection component for this role. You must have the ability to become a Permanent Resident of Australia and be willing to undergo an AAD Polar Medical Examination.
