This position is for a Manufacturing Process Engineer with a Manufacturing Process/workflow focus. This individual will be responsible for planning designing and executing experiments on 3d laser powder bed fusion systems and other complex processing equipment at Velo3D. The experiments and development work will cover a wide range of areas including but not limited to printer functionality post processing workflows and equipment optimization etc. The purpose of this work is to propose and assess workflow and design changes to improve the way we execute our part printing production. This position will report directly to the Director of Production Engineering who owns the development and evaluation of Manufacturing Processes
Essential Functions
Oversee and contribute to the design development and optimization of manufacturing processes.
Problem identification and troubleshooting a wide range of significantly complex problems. Defines experiments and determines the type of meaningful data required to support evaluation and technical decision. Oversees and approves research and analysis results.
Run experiments to collect data on printer processes along with post processing equipment and workflows.
Design experiments to assess impact of hardware modifications based on both measurements of physical variables as well as results and observations on printed parts.
Analyze and report data from experimental studies and make adjustments to processes as needed.
Utilize/repair/build various test benches or mock workflows to enable accelerated testing and characterization.
Operation of 3d laser powder bed fusion system.
Assemble mechanical systems with little guidance based on CAD models or drawings.
Troubleshoot 3d printers and other complex processing equipment remotely and inperson using sensor data.
Directly interface with process hardware and software groups to assist in troubleshooting various aspects of the printed part workflow.
Execute qualification processes for modifications of process/software/hardware prior to release on printers and other complex postprocessing equipment.
Participate in team and other assigned meetings.

Qualifications
Degree in Engineering or applied experimental science
At least 5 years of relevant experience (academic or industrial) involving experimental design and on LPBF additive manufacturing processes and workflows.
Competence in analyzing and interpreting data using common data analysis software such as Python Matlab or similar.
Mechanical aptitude preferred
Solves unique and complex problems with broad impact on the business; requires conceptual and innovative thinking to develop solutions
High commitment to contribute to a positive high paced and results oriented work environment
Strong sense of ownership to ensure quality data is collected in timely manner and any/all issues are quickly escalated/resolved
Ability to organize data and present key findings

Work Environment
Work is performed in office and manufacturing laboratory. Work is may be performed in emergency and stressful situations and may include handling of hazardous materials.

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The starting base salary for this fulltime position is between $120000 and $125000. This salary range reflects the minimum and maximum target for this position in the U.S. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors such as work experience jobrelated skills related education work location and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future. In addition to a competitive base salary and a comprehensive benefits package this position may be eligible for other forms of compensation such as participation in a bonus and equity program as applicable.
