TITLE:Color Guard Instructor (Stipend)

HIRING SPECIFICATIONS:
Required:
Experience in color guard in a leadership role.
Desired:
1.Bachelors Degree in dance or music.
2.Experience as a high school or collegiate color guard instructor.
BASIC FUNCTION:
As an assistant to the high school Band Director the Color Guard instructor coordinates the preparations exercises and activities of the school marching bands auxiliary unit the Color Guard. The instructor prepares and directs the unit for independent performance and competition as well as for performances integrated within the larger marching band.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
1. Assists in adjudication of new student tryouts.
2. Designates/coordinates the students into the various subgroups (e.g. majorette flags).
3. Prepares warmup routines/practice exercises for the unit.
4. Choreographs arranges and implements color guard routine(s) both as an integrated part of the marching band and as an independent unit.
5. Schedules and conducts extra rehearsals for the unit in addition to the scheduled evening marching band rehearsals.
6. Establishes communication with parents of color guard students and organize their efforts in support of the unit.
7. Assist the Band Director to prepare students for competitions and public appearances including parades and reviews.
8. Submits reports and activity checklists to building and district administrationas requested.
9. Attends districtwide meetings as requested.
