Job Description

The Accounting Manager supports Mass General Hospital (MGH) and MGH parent corporation (GH/MGH) performs the following functions and services:

Oversees and manages the accounting and financial reporting for two business units. Helps to develop and maintain accounting and operational policies and procedures for the assigned acute hospitals and the Partners system. On a monthly and annual basis provides financial information including operating results cash flow status balance sheet reconciliations and audit requirements.

Manages the daily operations of GH and MGH accounting staff in order to most appropriately and efficiently meet departmental and institutional needs and requirements.

Directs the development and preparation of detailed statistical and financial reporting for assigned entities.
Supports the monthly close process of assigned entities within PHS deadlines.

Adhers to the Service Excellence Guiding Principles; takes ownership of issues and ensures that customer expectations are being met including but not limited to the entity CFO operational and administrative department heads and other finance areas requiring financial data input and output.
Provides external auditors with requested information and analytics on a timely basis.

Participates in the development and maintenance of consistent and appropriate accounting policies and procedures and related internal controls.

Perform adhoc analysis of issues to support management inquires and decision making and other projects as requested.

Responsible for the hiring training supervision development motivation and discipline of staff.

Minimum of seven years relevant experience.
Self motivated team player with Bachelors Degree in Accounting CPA preferred.
Three to five years management experience.
Experience in translating and communicating key analyses and assumptions to Senior Management for decision making.
Experience in operational management to improve efficiency and effectiveness of staff.
Experience in developing and presenting materials to a senior team.
Experience in solutions management to solve financial and policy issues.

SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

Excellent accounting skills with a solid understanding of GAAP.
Excellent oral communication skills to concisely and accurately report monthly results.
Strong leadership skills with core competencies in the ability to lead change interpersonal skills customer service technology leveraging analytical thinking and employee recognition and retention.
Management skills necessary to motivate develop set performance expectations and supervise the work of others.
Ability to build teams and to work effectively as a team member on complex issues.
Demonstrated organizational skills and the ability to work under pressure.
Clear decisionmaking abilities including conflict management and respecting differences.
Strong problem solving skills including ability to build consensus and collaboration.
Computer skills in G/L. PeopleSoft experience preferred.
Computer skills in Excel PowerPoint Access or similar computer software tools.



Fast paced office environment.
Deadline driven in a challenging environment.
Must be able to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
Work requires proofreading and checking documents for accuracy as required.
