Job Description

Provides evaluation and treatment to pediatric patients with cognitive communicative and swallowing disorders; works collaboratively with the interdisciplinary rehabilitation team; provides education to families to maximize patients functional skills for effective reintegration back into school or community.The primary hours for this per diem position will be on Saturdays. Evaluates treats and performs clinical research related to speechlanguage and voice problems cognitive and swallowing disorders.Diagnoses speechlanguage and swallowing disorders by considering case history medical information and presenting speech and language behavior. Screens the communication status of patients to assist in prioritizing patients referred for treatment. Conducts ageappropriate evaluations and determines appropriateness of intervention makes estimate of prognosis establishes functional and achievable goals for patients recovery/predicted outcome and provides suggestions for communicative interaction. Communicates this information to patient family physician and rehabilitation team by written reports and conferences.Plans directs and conducts individuallytailored treatment programs designed to restore or improve communication/swallowing appropriate to patient diagnosis and age utilizing appropriate SLP procedures. Screens the hearing acuity of patients being evaluated or specifically referred. Determines need for referral to specialists: prosthodontist neuropsychology dentistry audiology otolaryngology psychiatry and educational specialist.Regularly reassesses patient status and modifies the treatment plan as appropriate.Documents all diagnostic findings patient performance in treatment program and progress made within established time lines thoroughly accurately and on appropriate forms. Provide timely written information to other health care providers insurance representatives or equipment vendors.Prepares accurate billing reflecting care provided to patients.Meet or exceed established level of productivity per work day. Manage equipment and space efficiently and effectively.Provide education/training to the following persons: Patients families department orientees students other health professionals visitors volunteers or other employees. Provides counsel and guidance to individuals with speechlanguage and/or swallowing impairments and their families.Participates in SLP educational meetings and in continuous quality improvement activities.

Masters Degree in Communication Disorders from an ASHA accredited university program.Hold Certificate of Clinical Competence in Speech Language Pathology from the American SpeechLanguage Hearing Association or meet educational requirements for certification or is completing Clinical Fellowship Year.Licensed (and in good standing) or eligible for licensure in Speech Language Pathology by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.Training includes knowledge and skill in the evaluation and treatment of infants toddlers preschool school aged adolescent adults and geriatric patients depending upon clinical assignment(s).Safely execute all job responsibilities without risking injury to self or patients. Basic Skills/Abilities RequiredMust demonstrate effective verbal/written skills to convey information and give instructions.Must possess acute hearing for speech diagnostic interpretation and differentiation of patient progress.Must demonstrate visual acuity for reading data and equipment controls and in observing patients mouths and lips in formation of sounds.Must demonstrate basic skills in use of Audiometer tape recorder Visipitch computer assisted treatment Augmentative Communication Devices; BiofeedbackEMG and other treatment equipment.Must demonstrate basic skills in math and computer science.Must demonstrate appropriate knowledge of speechlanguage pathology evaluation and treatment techniques to manage the patient population at SRH.
