Engineering Technician I:$63554.40 $77226.24annually
Engineering Technician II:$75697.44 $91946.40annually
This salary range(s) includes an approximate five percent 5 ongoing nonpensionable compensation. Actual salary shall bedeterminedby the final candidates qualifications and experience.
The Department of Public Works is currently seeking to fillone 1fulltime Engineering Technician I/II position within the Development Services (DS) Division.DSprovides permitting services for development projects and reviews plans and issuance of permits for the construction of utility infrastructure and encroachment on City streets. This division is also responsible forprogramsincluding storm water control flood hazard zones geologic hazard zones grading and erosion control mapping street and easement vacation special assessment districts and transportation and traffic analysis.
Key Responsibilities
Reviewing street improvement grading drainage and landscape plans for conformance with standards.
Evaluatingprojectsforpotential inclusion in or consistency withSpecial Districts as a tool to provide maintenance for nonstandard public improvements.
istingtheprojectteamsbyperformingplan reviewdata gatheringanalysis andsiteresearch related to development applications.
MaintainingkeyprojectinformationintheAMANDApermittingsystem.
Reviewing weekly development project submittals andidentifyingcomments for inclusion ininitialproject review memorandums.
Assistin preparation of annual budget district maps and tax rolls for the cities Special District Program.
Respond todevelopers engineersproperty owners real estate professionals lending institutions title companies otherjurisdictions and assessment district professionalsfor development projects or special districts.

The Engineering Technician I/II incumbents in the Public Works Department work directly with project managers from various divisions in the department including City Facilities and Architectural Services (CFAS) Engineering Services (ES) and Transportation and Hydraulic Services (THS) Divisions. These positions provide direct support to the project managers includingassistancein AutoCAD and/ or MicroStation drafting data collection construction inspection material sampling and testing office engineering performing site evaluations and project reviews. These positions also support sections with permit processing project filing USAlocating copying and the receipt and delivery of drawings and related documents.
CFAS manages capital projects across a wide variety of Cityowned facilities and infrastructure including but not limited to Emergency Interim Housing facilities Parks Playgrounds Trails Libraries Community Centers and other various public facilities.
ES iscomprisedof four sections: Construction Management Services Structural Engineering and Code Inspection Material Testing Laboratory and Survey. This division provides technical support services for Capital Improvement Projects development/utilitypermitprojects inspection oversight Underground Service Alert (USA)services land surveying monument preservation services field and laboratory testing pavement design and evaluations and building code inspection services.
THSis responsible forthe design construction and master plan of bridges culverts streets sidewalks storm and sanitary sewers pump stations streetlights landscape and hardscape improvements traffic signals and supports construction and engineering upgrade and revitalization of the San JoseSanta Clara Regional Wastewater Facility.
Education and Experience
Engineering TechnicianI
Completion of high school trade school or equivalent (General Education Development GED Test or California Proficiency Certificate).
Engineering Technician II
Completion of high school trade school or equivalent (General Education Development GED Test or California Proficiency Certificate) AND two 2 years of increasingly responsible subprofessional engineering work performing materials sampling and testing reviewing plans and specifications construction or infrastructure inspections traffic engineering or working on a field survey crew.
Acceptable Substitution
Engineering Technician II Successful completion of two 2 academic years or sixty 60 semester units of college level engineering technology courses or related field from an accredited college or university may be substituted for the required experience in subprofessional engineering work performing materials sampling and testing reviewing plans and specifications construction or infrastructure inspections traffic engineering or working on a field survey crew.
Required Licensing:Possession of a valid State of California drivers license may be.
