Required: A Bachelors and Masters one of which must be in Nursing along with previous management or leadership experience preferably in an academic medical center. Note: nonsupervisory/management experience in a staff professional role such as Project Manager/Specialist or Clinical Nurse Specialist will be considered. Previous experience in Endoscopy or the Operating Room is desired but not required.

Leadership competencies including well developed interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written) critical thinking/judgement and the ability to inspire and operate effectively at all levels of the organization are essential

Reporting to the Associate Chief Nurse Perioperative and GI Endoscopy Services provides leadership in an environment that celebrates and empowers nurses. In collaboration with a Clinical Nurse Specialist two nurse managers and an Operations Manager (all whom report to the Nursing Director) hire develop and provide direction to patient care providers and support staff. Partner with nurses physicians and other disciplines to guide and direct clinical practice systems improvement and operations. Negotiate and plan for interdepartmental resources with other department managers to ensure best level services to direct care providers and ultimately patients. Promote professionalism and autonomy by engaging staff in planning and decisionmaking. The Nursing Director is responsible for the vision creativity strategy management and articulation of nursing practice.

The Endoscopy Units provide total gastrointestinal care. Ninety percent of the patients are outpatients and the remaining ten percent are inpatients or transfers from another facility. There are approximately 30000 cases performed in the two units annually. The ND works in close partnership and collaborates with the GI physician leaders Administrative Directors Department of Anesthesia and Critical Care and Perioperative Services to assure efficient running of the GI units and to assure safe patient care. The ND is responsible for Endoscopy infusion Diagnostic and Therapeutic services across three sitesoutpatient inpatient adult and pediatrics and endoscopic processing in two sites.

There are a number of different procedures performed on the units including infusions motility advanced interventional endoscopy procedures procedural sedation metabolic endoscopy. The units have a multidisciplinary operational committee. Membership of the committee includes nurses physicians and support staff. The committee meets biweekly to collaborate across disciplines to improve the patient experience. The ND is a member of the GI Steering Committee.
