B.S. or B.A. degree in science required (e.g. biology chemistry or physics) or engineering (e.g. mechanical engineering chemical engineering or biomedical engineering); Masters degree helpful.
1 2 years related research experience. Experience with animal care and surgery is desirable.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
None. May provide functional guidance to and training to undergraduate students and new hires.
FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY (if applicable):
Responsible for the economical use of resources and time. Cost effectively researches and orders materials for lab.
Surgical and laboratory settings. Exposures will include sharp instruments bodily fluids animal waste chemicals gases and cleaners. Walking and standing are routine elements of this position as are pushing pulling and carrying of equipment & supplies.
Work will be conducted over a fortyhour work week but actual schedule can be flexible. At times it may be necessary to work some hours in the evenings or on weekends due to experimental and equipment constraints.

GENERAL SUMMARY/ OVERVIEW STATEMENT:
The Research Technician II (RT) will serve as an integral member of a growing clinical research program involving physician scientist and engineer principal investigators who are focused on developing clinicallyrelevant solutions to voice problems.
Under supervision of the Principal Investigators the RT will assist with experiments with a focus on development and testing of medical implant materials devices and surgical procedures. The work will include testing different ways of preparing or chemically modifying implant materials preparing surgical instruments and supplies assisting with animal anesthesia surgery and recovery monitoring and participating in the analysis and interpretation of results. The RT will proactively communicate with research staff to make sure their research needs are being supported and that any issues can be addressed.
The RT will work with the Investigators to ensure that his/her duties and the workflow of the lab are completed effectively and in support of the research lab. The RT will monitor daily work requirements and organize schedule to facilitate and ensure programmatic needs are met.
PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Carries out a wide range of basic to complex research techniques involved in rheometry particle sizing spectrophotometry microscopy animal surgery and handling preparation of reagents histological processing and the creation and testing of novel biomaterials. Under direction of supervisor modifies techniques as necessary to meet research and/or experimental needs.
Organizes and accurately maintains written records of experimental procedures and data generated. Reports information to management principal investigator and/or senior research personnel.
Performs general lab duties including cleaning and sterilization of surgical instruments cleaning and organization of laboratory bench areas and operating room.
Organizes and maintain experimental procedures and data generated. Assists in preparation of manuscripts resulting from data generated in research projects.
Learns and becomes proficient in the operation of photomicroscopes data acquisition systems video equipment and image analysis software.
Contributes to weekly lab meetings to facilitate problem solving lab process improvement discussions and to participate in the initiation of pilot projects.
Maintains lab safety and chemical areas and inventory records. Wears and utilizes PPE in an appropriate manner.
Inventories and maintains stock of supplies used for general and surgical purposes. Collaborates with investigators and administrators to research and identify routine and novel equipment parts and other supplies. Stores all items in required conditions such as refrigeration.
With some experience/background in electronics may participate in development and testing of implantable physiological devices.
May provide orientation and functional guidance to research technicians and/or undergraduate and summer interns.
