Clinical ImmunologyLaboratory Specific:
Picks up acceptable specimens at Central Processing. Scans specimens into the lab and separatesthem to the proper testing stations.
Measures samples quantitatively using pipettes making necessarydilutions in accordance with standard procedures.
Performs automated testing of various proteins and free light chains onthe Binding Site SPAplus and the Beckman Immage.
Performs complex manual tasks on the IEP bench for electrophoresis ofserum urine and CSF.
This includes making and cutting gels pipettingmicro amounts of sample and antisera.Also washing and analysis of cryoprecipitates and hypersensitivitypneumonitis testing.
Assists the M.D. reading the electrophoresis gels and immunofixationsin the morning and afternoon.Coordinates worksheets and data and then enters interpretations topatient files after the M.D. has signed off.
Performs automated testing of: ENA CCP H.Pylori and Celiacs by theELISA method on the PhD instrument.
Performs ANA MSK and DNA testing by IFA on the PhD instrument readsthe slides with a fluorescent microscope and then enters data to patient filesafter M.D. has signed off the results.
Performs manual viscosities.
Consults with supervisor and/or laboratory director regarding difficultanalyses or abnormal findings.
Knowledgeable regarding normal abnormal and critical value rangespertinent to the Clinical Immunology Laboratory.
Knowledgeable regarding standard laboratory math and calculationsneeded to complete various work assignments.
Prepares reagents and controls used in conducting tests (requirespipetting skills) which includes preparation of inhouse patient controlsproper storage and documentation.
Records results of tests conducted in laboratory computer. Operates computer terminals to enter andretrieve pertinent laboratory information and reports corrects inaccuratelaboratory data utilizes Callback function.
May assist laboratory supervisor.Helps to answer Immunology related questions.
Performs quality control procedures accurately and according toprocedures correctly documents corrective action logs and basic instrumentmaintenance logs.
Follows all safety (including infection control and hazardous material)policies and procedures. Notifiessupervisor of unsafe conditions.Successfully participates in annual safety education and competency activitiesincluding annual fire drills. Respondsto and promptly resolves all unsafe conditions.
MTI at MGH and active nationalcertification or categorical certification in relevant specialty and
total of two consecutiveyears with performance that meet expectations with 1 at MT1 level including
twentyfour hours ofdocumented continuing education in previous two years according to lab specificpolicy
