Job Description

Education/Degree
  • RHITRHIA or CCS with demonstrated coding skills required

Experience

  • Extensive recent codingexperience of at least 2 recent years may be substituted for formal educationand/or certification.

Skills(Specificlearned activity gained through training (e.g. computer skills keyboardingpresentation CPR ACLS etc.

  • Understandingof the healthcare field and the applicable prospective payment systems andtheir relationship to the position.
  • Indepthunderstanding of health and medical record information.
  • Understandingof A & P medical terminology and record documentation.
  • Must be familiarwith the principles and practices of Health Information/Medical RecordsSciences and understand how they apply to hospitals medical records and codingin particular.
  • Mustpossess a knowledge and understanding of the ICD CM LTC and/or IRF codingcontingent on the work setting.
  • Must havesome familiarity with CPT coding and levels.
  • Computer proficiency required. Microsoft office applications preferred withability to learn new software.
Preferred:
  • Highlydeveloped communications and interpersonal skills working with diversepopulation.
  • Workindependently be selfdirected and contribute as a member of a team.
  • Anticipateschallenges and develops and implements strategies for addressing them.
  • Highlevel of service delivery. Demonstrate initiative with ability to prioritizework meet deadlines and adapt to changing situations.
  • Attentionto detail.

Completeinpatient and outpatient record coding in an accurate and timely manner asdefined in the Department and in keeping with Coding Guidelines and otherapplicable coding rules and conventions applicable to the facility.

  • Dischargedpatient records are coded in adherence with ICDCM rules department policiesand procedures and standardized coding rules conventions and IRF/LTCH requirements.
  • Recordsare coded to meet established HIM timeframes.
  • AdmissionRecords are coded in accordance with IRF/LTCH rules and standards.
  • OPDrecords are coded in adherence with Ambulatory coding conventions.
  • Impairmentcoding is provided as needed to support department needs.
  • Peerreview is actively participated in to ensure coding accuracy.
  • Crosscoverage is provided to support HIM team meet department objectives.
  • Appropriatecodes are assigned and entered into the computer system at the respectivehospital for the UB92
  • Appropriatecodes are assigned and entered into the IRFPAI for transmission to the CMSvia UDS or eRehab.
  • Additionaldepartment organization or network activities are completed per establishedobjectives.
  • PCCOrganizational Values of Innovation Collaboration Accountability Respectand Excellence are upheld.
