JOB DESCRIPTION
TITLE: STAFF NURSE Per Diem PEDIATRIC ALLERGY & PULMONARY AMBULATORY PRACTICE
Job Code: 000430
Grade: 55
OVERVIEW:
The staff nurse is a registered nurse who is responsible for assuring competent compassionate individualized nursing care for specific patients and their families in the ambulatory care setting. She / he collaborate with practice leadership; members of the patient care team and the patient to achieve optimal patient outcomes.
REPORTS TO: RN Coordinator/Practice Manager /Physician Leader.
GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
Telephone triage of allergy & pulmonary patient calls.
Renewal of prescription refill to pharmacies.
Submit prior authorizations as indicated.
Education of patients and families regarding allergies asthma and medications commonly used.
Coordinates home medical equipment for patient care
Work with and support allergy pulmonary and infectious disease physicians and practice needs.
Screening mixing and administration of Xolair.
Performance and recording of allergy skin testing test and intradermal testing).
Screening dosing and administration of allergy injections.
Recognition of medical emergency and initiates alert and treatment system
1.0 Provides competent compassionate nursing care based on scientific principles and the use of nursing process
1.1 Provides and maintains a therapeutic environment for patients and families.
1.2 Articulates the professional nursing role to the patient family and health team members.
1.3 Communicates the plan of care and other pertinent information to / from other patient care
Team members.
1.4 Coordinates involvement of the patient family and health team members in patient care plan
including patient and family teaching.
1.5 Provides nursing care appropriate to age group of patients.
1.6 Observes reports and documents relevant patient information.
1.7 Identifies facilitates and evaluates outcomes of nursing care for an individual patient or group of
patients.
1.8 Helps define standards of excellence for patient care; participates in improvement of patient care services in a costeffective way.
1.9 Participates in and contributes to performance improvement activities.


2.0 Collaborates with other professional and nonprofessional personnel in maintaining recognized standards.
2.1 Appropriately utilizes nursing resources.
2.2 Adheres to hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
3.0 Participates in daily activities conducive to the comfort and safety of patients / their families and practice staff.
3.1 Appropriately utilizes equipment and supplies.
3.2 Provides input to the practice leadership regarding practice needs.
4.0 Professional Development:
4.1 Maintains and updates clinical knowledge and skills based on current nursing education
practice.
4.2 Adheres to Department of Nursing requirements for training as specified in the MGH Nursing Practice Manual.

QUALIFICATIONS:

BSN Graduate of an approved school of nursing for new grad nurses

Current RN license in Massachusetts.

  • Previous Ambulatory clinical experience preferred
  • Prior Allergy/Asthma experience preferred
  • Organized efficient able to function well in a high volume fast paced environment
  • 2 years nursing experience
  • BCLS certification required
