The Department of Corrections Division of Institutions is recruiting for a Maintenance Specialist Building/Facility/Construction Journey 1 for the Spring Creek Correctional Center (SCCC) located in Seward Alaska.

What You Will Be Doing:
  • Building and Construction: Knowledge of materials methods and the tools to construct objects structures and buildings.
  • Carpentry/Woodworking: Knowledge of materials methods and the appropriate tools to construct install finish or repair wooden objects or structures.
  • Industrial Equipment Operation: Knowledge of principles and methods for operating industrial equipment.
  • Painting: Knowledge of materials methods and appropriate tools to apply paint and other protective coating materials on drywall wood metal glass and other surfaces

The Working Environment You Can Expect:

Spring Creek Correctional Center is a maximum security state operated adult correctional institution. The institution has a capacity of over 500 male inmates and employs approximately 200 staff.

  • Mechanical: Knowledge of machines and tools including their designs installation uses repair and maintenance
  • Safety Engineering: Knowledge of the concepts principles theories and methods to identify control mitigate and eliminate safety hazards in the design and use of facilities equipment operations and work processes.

  • Sexual abuse in a prison jail lockup community confinement facility juvenile facility or other institution;
  • Convicted of engaging or attempting to engage in sexual activity in the community facilitated by force overt or implied threats of force or coercion or if the victim did not consent or was unable to consent or refuse; or
  • Has been civilly or administratively adjudicated to have engaged in the activity described above.

CRIMINAL HISTORY CHECKS/APSIN/ACOMS
Please be aware this position requires the use of the Alaska Public Safety Information Network (APSIN)/Alaska Corrections Offender Management System (ACOMS). A security clearance issued by the Department of Public Safety (DPS) is necessary to use APSIN/ACOMS. DPS will deny security clearance for any applicant who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor in this state or another jurisdiction or who may be a fugitive from justice. Additionally security clearance will be withdrawn if DPS discovers that material information was falsified or omitted at the time of the initial application for security clearance.

FINGERPRINT NOTICE
All Department of Corrections employees are required to be fingerprinted. The successful candidate must pass a criminal history check.

DRIVERS LICENSE REQUIREMENT
Applicants must possess a valid drivers license. Proof of licensure will be required prior to reporting to duty.
