Description

Job Summary: The Peer Mental Health Specialist is responsible for the development of a Peer mental health network for youth/ young adults. This position will outreach and coordinate with existing mental health and recovery services and develop other necessary strengthbased supports needed to promote successful recovery. This Peer Specialist will provide mental health support to youth and young adults in northern panhandle counties of West Virginia.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Research other successful youth peer mental health networks.
  • Outreach to mental health networks to learn about supports necessary to promote successful recovery.
  • Outreach to local peer recovery providers to coordinate efforts.
  • Become a certified Recovery Coach.
  • Participate in local Recovery Coach Training and promote certification process.
  • Public speaking engagements to promote awareness and accessibility of mental health services.
  • Provide mental health support using evidencebased Programs.
  • Assist with tracking and reporting performance measures.
  • Complete necessary documentation and grant reporting.
  • Assist with transportation to improve accessibility of mental health services.
  • Assist with applications for private funding to support recovery efforts.
  • Attend necessary treatment team and community meetings.
  • Assist consumers in accessing benefits.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

  • Knowledge and experience of adults with mental health diagnosis
  • Excellent time management and organizing skills
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and written
  • Experience working with the recovery community
  • Experience in program development
  • Ability to work under pressure and multitask
  • Proficient and accurate documentation
  • Ability to use Adobe and Microsoft software

Education and Experience:

  • Requires Highschool Diploma/G.E.D or equivalent;
  • Prefers Associate Degree in Social Work Counseling Psychology or related human services field.
  • Must have lived experience. Must be able to obtain Peer Recovery Coach Certification.
  • Must have valid drivers license and proof of automobile insurance as required by law
