CIVIL ENGINEER
Position Summary
Minnkota Power Cooperative is seeking qualified applicants for a Civil Engineer position located at our headquarters in Grand Forks North Dakota. This position is responsible for Substation Design Engineering Engineering Analysis Project Management and support of Operations and Maintenance personnel.
The salary range for this position begins at $72677 per year. Appropriate compensation will be determined based on a candidates skills education and any previous relevant experience.
Essential Responsibilities
- Substation Design Engineering
- Prepare plan and profile drawings construction drawings and specifications
- Develop complete material lists for projects
- Assure all substation designs meet strength and safety requirements of the National Electric Safety Code (NESC) and/or Rural Utility System (RUS) design manual
- Engineering Analysis
- Perform foundation and grading design calculations
- Perform structural design and strength calculations
- Design physical substation layouts for both transmission and distribution sites
- Project Management
- Project scoping planning and estimating of substation projects
- Consultant contractor and construction coordination and management
- Operations and Maintenance Support
- Provide daytoday guidance and technical expertise to operations and maintenance personnel

Job Qualification Standards
Education and Training
- Bachelors degree in Civil Engineering from an ABET accredited university
- Engineer In Training (EIT) Certification PE (Professional Engineer) license preferred
Experience
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Experience in the energy industry and with substation design a plus
- Interested candidates with no experience are encouraged to apply as extensive on the job training will occur
- Experience with AutoCAD preferred

Mental demands: While performing the duties of this position the incumbent will be required to problem solve read write and analyze data work under schedules and deadline pressure present information to others work independently and use discretion and judgment for confidential or sensitive projects/issues.
Work Environment: While performing the duties of this position the employee is exposed to an office environment indoors and will travel outdoors to multiple locations dependent on work.
