POSITION: K4 Assistant Principal of Student Services (Long Term Substitute)

LOCATION: Woodville Elementary School

SALARY: Per the WAA Contract

QUALIFICATIONS: Current Massachusetts License in appropriate area.

Principal/Assistant Principal PreK6

Special Education Certification required

Masters Degree and some experience working as an administrator.

support in meeting the individualized educational needs of students.

Position Title: Gr. K4 Assistant Principal of Student Services

Reports to: School Principal

Job Goal:

To assist in the administration of the elementary school and to support the school in meeting the individualized educational needs of each student in the school.

Requirements:

Masters Degree and some experience working as an administrator.

Principal/Assistant Principal Grades PreK6

Special Education Certification required.

Performance Monitoring/Evaluation:

  1. Acts as primary evaluator of assigned faculty members and completes all steps and requirements of the evaluation process.
  2. Assumes an active role in the supervision/evaluation of Special Education staff.
  3. Acts as a resource person to faculty and students.
  4. Assists in the orientation of new staff and the preparation for the opening and closing of school.
  5. Interviews prospective candidates for substitute positions and recommends acceptable candidates.
  6. Assists in the evaluation of the clerical staff.
  7. Assists the Principal in interviewing new staff members.

Administration:

  1. Assists the Principal in the general administration of the school and serves as Principal in the Principals absence.
  2. Assists in the preparation of the student and teacher handbooks.
  3. Serves as a member of the elementary school administrative team.
  4. Directs textbook and supplies requisitions distribution and inventory.
  5. Cooperates in the conducting of safety inspections and safety drill activities.
  6. Supervises the preparation of state and federal reports as required.
  7. Represents the school at area meetings as assigned by the Principal.
  8. Attends all building team leadership meetings.
  9. Assists in the development of the elementary school budget equipment recommendations and specifications.
  10. Approves and organizes all school assembly programs.
  11. Assists in the creation of the master schedule.
  12. Assists in the coordination of the building special education programs and services.
  13. Facilitates Special Education Team Meetings and completes corresponding paperwork
  14. Responsible for providing a link between the special education department and the special education staff with regard to legal mandates and the implementation of district policies procedures and vision.
  15. Responsible for instructing and directing regular education staff regarding changes in Federal and State regulations and District procedures.
  16. Mentor and provide support for regular and special education staff in the area of disability awareness.
  17. With the help of the District Special Education Coordinator and Director of Special Education review all individualized educational programs assessments and required paperwork to assure accuracy and mandated timelines.
  18. Works with the special education department to ensure paperwork is sent to parents within the mandated time frame.
  19. Supervises assignment of substitute teachers.
  20. Performs all other tasks as assigned by the Principal and Administrator of Special Education and Student Services.

Students:

  1. Supervises conduct of students within the school and oversees disciplinary procedures keeping accurate records of disciplinary actions of assigned students.
  2. Supervises the reporting and monitoring of student attendance and related waivers.
  3. Coordinates schedules and facilitates team meetings and associated paperwork for students to develop appropriate educational plans.
  4. Monitors IEP and programmatic compliance within the building.
  5. Supervises the program of extracurricular activities.
  6. Communicates with parents/guardians of assigned students regarding absences/waivers etc.

Professionalism:

  1. Stays abreast of Educational Reform developments and changes in the educational law/regulations.
  2. Stays abreast of changes within federal mandates such as IDEA (PL 94142 as they relate to special education and section 504.
  3. Stays abreast of curricular/cocurricular research and development.
  4. Keeps informed of new instructional practices.
  5. Promotes educational excellence at the Elementary School.

Human and Public Relations:

  1. Assists the Principal relative to public information and public relations.
  2. Manages parent communication and concerns as part of the IEP process.
  3. Attends meeting of the PTO on a bimonthly basis or as required.
  4. Assists in preparation/presentation of school programs as school committee and other meetings.
