Dyslexia TeacherJob Title: Dyslexia Teacher Exempt Status: ExemptReports to: Campus Principal/Curriculum Coordinator Date Revised: 9/2019Dept./School: District WideWork Calendar: 183 Day Pay Grade: Teacher Salary SchedulePrimary Purpose:Assist in evaluating students who have been referred to the dyslexia program and provideassistance to classroom teachers by helping them identify appropriate strategies on the delivery ofregular classroom reading instructions to identified dyslexic studentsQualifications:Education/Certification:Bachelors degree from accredited universityValid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned.Reading specialist certification and/or training dyslexic studentsTraining in teaching dyslexic students using the multisensory teaching approach is required.Special Knowledge/Skills:Knowledgeable in development and implementation of lesson plans that fulfill the requirementsof the districts curriculum program and show written evidence of preparation as requiredKnowledge in preparation of lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in studentlearning stylesAbility to present subject matter according to guidelines established by Texas Education Agencyboard policies and administrative regulationsKnowledge in the use of appropriate instructional and learning strategies activities materialsand equipment that reflect understanding of the learning styles and needs of students assignedAbility to instruct students and manage their behaviorExcellent organizational communication and interpersonal skillsExperience:Major Responsibilities and Duties:1. Serve as an itinerant dyslexia teacher on two or more campuses as assigned2. Assist in evaluating students who have been referred to the dyslexia program and provide periodicevaluation of students served3. Participate in campus SST/RTI meetings and use data to make recommendations to the SST/RTI indetermining appropriate placement for referred students4. Provide assistance to classroom teachers by helping them identify appropriate strategies on thedelivery of regular classroom reading instructions to identified students5. Coordinate services with other involved school personnel in planning and providing joint instructionfor the students6. Follow district procedures for the program7. Keep accurate and complete records for students served and submit as required8. Act as the liaison to building personnel in interpreting educational policies procedures andguidelines concerning students in the dyslexia program9. Communicate with parents through conferences or phone calls10. Exhibit excellent interpersonal and communication skills11. Comply with district policies as well as state and federal laws and regulations12. Adhere to the districts safety policies and procedures13. Maintain confidentiality in the conduct of district business14. Must be able to perform the essential functions of walking and interacting with students and/ordistrict employees in the specific work site assigned (classroom or office setting)15.
