Detailed Description:

The university seeks an individual with a strong interest in working at a mission driven faithbased institution. The Assistant Director coordinates programs and services focusing on social justice identity exploration leadership development empowerment and changemaking. The Assistant Director collaborates closely to enhance and maintain existing UFMC programs and services while also leading initiatives that specifically support the Latine and AAPI communities. Due to the evolving nature of our work this individual will need to have a keen ability to collaborate and implement visionary ways of working. Must be comfortable adjusting work requirements to meet the needs of students and the USD community. Complete work assignments with minimal supervision and have the ability to prioritize organize and complete tasks effectively and in a timely manner. The role requires flexibility enthusiasm initiative and strong problemsolving and multitasking skills.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Administration

  • Collaborates in the strategic planning implementation and evaluation of UFMC programs and services to ensure alignment with university goals and student needs.
  • Actively participates in campus meetings and committees focused on advancing diversity inclusion and social justice initiatives.
  • Leads needs assessments for marginalized student groups develops recommendations and creates new programs thatfoster a greater sense of belonging in line with cocurricular learning outcomes. Continuously evaluates and enhances programs systems and services to effectively address evolving student and institutional needs.
  • Supports the recruitment training and evaluation of student staff to maintain high standards of service and leadership.
  • Represents the UFMC at joint meetings and retreats contributing to broader campus efforts.

Program Support & Development

  • Designs and oversees programs that support the Divisions Thriving Student model and integrate identitybased spaces. Provides leadership and guidance in developing initiatives that promote social justice identity exploration and leadership/empowerment for students.
  • Coordinates targeted programming for Latine and AAPI communities to support recruitment retention and a strong sense of belonging and community.
  • Manages logistics for programs and events including preparing contracts coordinating with speakers/trainers and handling venue catering and A/V arrangements.
  • Leads the United Front Leadership Council (UFLC) creating opportunities for student leaders to engage develop skills and connect both on and off campus.
  • Supports diversity inclusion and social justice training for student leaders as well as orientation programs for fall and spring semesters.
  • Builds and maintains strong partnerships with faculty staff and key campus units serving as a liaison between The Commons and various departments within Student Affairs Academic Affairs and other divisions.
  • Responsible for leading joint team development efforts for The Commons (identity spaces including the Womens Commons LGBTQ & Allies Black Student Resource Commons and UFMC).
  • Attends events during daytime evening and weekend hours to ensure effective of programs and activities.
  • Provides followup and referrals to campus resources to support student success and wellbeing.

Supervision & Advising

  • Applies student development theory to offer personalized advising and support to students.
  • Oversees the recruitment training and performance evaluation of UFMC workstudy and casual labor student staff.
  • Supervises a graduate assistant working within the United Front Multicultural Commons. Facilitates training and development opportunities for student staff enhancing their skills and leadership capabilities.
  • Collaborates closely with student staff across The Commons to provide guidance mentorship and support.

Other

  • Acts as a primary resource for students in the absence of the Director ensuring continuity of support.
  • Contributes to special projects and actively participates in University committees.
  • Greets constituents with a positive inclusive attitude fostering a welcoming environment and directing individuals toappropriate resources when needed.
  • Takes on additional division or campuswide projects to support student success and advance organizational goals. These projects may vary in scope and duration ranging from seasonal or ad hoc to ongoing initiatives.

Degree Verification Requirement: Persons offered employment in this position will be required to provide official education transcripts for degree verification purposes.

Job Requirements:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in Higher Education or related field required. Bachelors degree and one additionalyear of work experiencemay substitute for the Masters degree. One year of professional experience in student services student advising programming leadership training or student development required.
  • Ability to work some evenings and weekends to attend programs meetings and retreats is required.
  • Knowledge of DEI work and experience working effectively with diverse populations required.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience related to supervision and advising student leaders undergraduate/graduate student employees or professional staff.

Performance Expectations Knowledge Skills andAbilities:

  • Ability to understand and articulate the complexity and needs and concerns of underrepresented groups; ability to advocate for students around multiple identity groups including race ethnicity class gender sexual orientation and other significant aspects of individual and cultural identity.
  • Must be a selfstarter with initiative and ability to stay on top of work with minimum of supervision and anticipate needs of organization; must be able to work independently taking initiative on multiple projects and maintain deadlines.
  • Interest in and ability to work with a diverse student body and staff. Excellent interpersonal skills with a diverse population including the ability to develop and use empathetic listening skills communicate with clarity and maintain an attitude that conveys respect assistance honesty and resourcefulness.
  • Knowledge of and skill in budgeting fiscal management and reporting preferred. Knowledge of and commitment to the principles of student development preferred. Ability to work closely with and motivate students required.
  • Experience in program development training and advocacy preferred.
  • Computer literacy and experience using Google Suite required.
  • Position requires attention to detail excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Willingness to support the Catholic mission and vision of the University. Demonstrated practice of centering diversity equity inclusion and antiracism in ones work including an ongoing commitment to personal learning and development in this area.
  • Demonstrated commitment to student learning and development in the cocurriculum and experience assessing the impact of programs and related services.
