Position Summary
San Diego State University is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Instructional Support Technician (IST) to join the School of Art and Designs Applied Design program. Reporting to the School Director the IST will play a crucial role in providing comprehensive instructional support for all shops and labs including Ceramics Furniture Design and Woodworking and Jewelry and Metalwork.

Department Summary
The School of Art and Design in the College of Professional Studies and Fine Arts is a creative learning community in which students develop their practice as artists designers and art historians who work in and across media while enhancing their visual material and conceptual thinking. Located on the Pacific Rim and at the border with Mexico the School is dedicated to the integration of art design and community building in alignment with the Schools commitments to social / environmental justice and innovative entrepreneurship. Through both disciplinespecific and multidisciplinary approaches to teaching and learning we support students to innovate solutions express ideas imagine possibilities and interpret the world through historical cultural and global contexts.
The School of Art and Design believes representation matters. In addition to sixteen tenured/tenure track faculty members the school employs approximately 70 lecturers and graduate teaching associates to serve approximately 1300 majors and 20 graduate students. The Director leads the School with the support of eight fulltime staff positions including one Instructional Support Technician two Equipment Technicians one Administrative Analyst/Specialist three Administrative Support Coordinator II positions and one Information Technology Consultant. In addition the School is supported by one parttime Administrative Support Coordinator.

Education and Experience
Equivalent to two years of experience providing instructional support services for a unit or discipline acting as a student assistant or in producing materials or supplies related to the discipline.
or
Equivalent to two years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials supplies or equipment and in a discipline related to the area to which assigned may be substituted for one year of the required experience.
or
Equivalent to four years of college with 16 semester units in courses involving extensive use of materials supplies or equipment and in a related discipline may be substituted for the experience.

Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4206 per month.
Salary placement is determined by the education experience and qualifications the candidate brings to the position internal equity and the hiring departments fiscal resources.
