Job Description

TITLE I READING SPECIALIST

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Holds a valid Pennsylvania Teaching Certificate.

  1. Possesses a reading specialist certification with a Masters degree and three years teaching experience preferred.

  1. Must have an understanding and knowledge of computer technology.

  1. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Board may find appropriate or acceptable.

REPORTS TO: Building Principal Director of Elementary Curriculum and Assistant Superintendent

JOB GOAL: To help students to experience success in the regular instructional program and attain grade level proficiency in reading.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Prepares a prioritized annual needs assessment of students.

  1. Identifies eligible students for Title I Reading program through formal and informal measures.

  1. Works collaboratively with classroom teachers special educators Title I Math Instructor school based coach math/reading intervention instructor and guidance counselor to determine the needs of eligible students.

  1. Coplans with classroom teacher to provide appropriate instructional opportunities to supplement core instruction.

  1. Provides a basic program of study which meets the needs interests and abilities of students consistent with district curriculum.

  1. Analyzes and interprets data to make good instructional decisions that will increase student achievement.

  1. Creates a working environment that is conducive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interests of students.

  1. Assesses the performance of students on a regular basis and keeps required records of students progress.

  1. Confers with colleagues guidance counselors and parents on a regular basis regarding the progress of each Title I child.

  1. Works collaboratively with other Title I professionals to develop and implement a parenting program.

  1. Assists the administration in implementing all policies and/or rules governing student life and conduct and develops reasonable rules of classroom behavior and procedures which maintain order in the classroom in a fair and just manner.

  1. Strives to maintain and improve professional competence and share knowledge and expertise with colleagues.

  1. Participates in Title I activities of the district.

  1. Performs other reasonable duties as are assigned by the Title I Project Director and the Building Principal for the wellbeing of the student.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT: Salary and benefits to be determined in accordance with the negotiated agreement between the Crawford Central Educational Association and the Crawford Central Board of School Directors

EVALUATION: Performance will be evaluated annually in accordance with provisions of the Boards policy on evaluation of Professional personnel by the Building Principal

Periodic visits for evaluative purposes also will be made by the Title I Project Director the Local Education Agency Coordinator and the State Evaluating Committee.
