About the role
Betterments mission is to empower people to do whats best for their money so that they can live better. As a Product Manager on our Custody team youll be responsible for executing against and helping to shape the product roadmap for a Custody platform that manages over $50 billion in client assets across three lines of business. You will also be accountable for ensuring the teams priorities fulfill the brokerdealers multiple mandates:
- Enable Growth We must enable our business lines to ship new revenuegenerating products that delight our customers.
- Maximize Efficiency We strive to make our software better and build automation to prevent missioncritical teams from doing repetitive manual workflows.
- Minimize Risk Our clients have trusted us with their savings and the durability of our systems need to reflect that responsibility.
You will be expected to navigate multiple concurrent projects from a high level and able to also quickly dive into the weeds with engineers as needed to address technical projectspecific roadblocks. Youll need to roll up your sleeves and shouldertoshoulder with both highly technical and nontechnical teams across the organization throughout the entire product development lifecycle. Youll need to prioritize effectively in order to ensure that our Custody team is delivering on the most important business objectives while also strengthening Betterments foundation as a trusted financial institution.
This role is based out of our NYC office. Below weve reflected the base salary range we would offer for this position. Actual salaries may vary depending on factors including but not limited to location experience and performance. The range listed is just one component of Betterments total compensation package for employees.
- New York City: $140000 $165000

A day in the life
- Understand the financial pain points that Americans in our target market experience on a regular basis and serve as their advocate when making backend decisions that impact their frontend experience
- Assist in the creation and of the Custody product strategy as it relates to the backend record keeping and money movement systems core to the Custody domain
- Partner with frontend product managers to help shape the product requirements with respect to the Custody build and actively participate throughout its development lifecycle
- Attend standups planning meetings and retros to support the Custody engineering team where needed
- Coordinate with Operations teams to navigate complex client situations often involving asset transitions and corporate action processing
- Work closely with Technical Program Managers to unblock or drive all phases of the software development cycle
What were looking for
- Product management experience at a financial services or financial technology company with a focus on backend systems and applications preferred
- Familiarity with financial operations such as corporate actions dividends and cash/position reporting
- Strong analytical abilities with a passion for data inspired decision making
- Selfstarter and demonstrated success at communicating prioritizing and balancing needs crossfunctionally
- Obsessive attention to detail and strong organization skills in a fastpaced environment
- Ability to build strong relationships across functions within an organization
- Creative problem solving skills that balance the regulatory realities and innovation
- Ability to think abstractly about backend builds and how that will translate into a customer experience
- Be able to construct narratives that help the organization see the long term vision of the platform
