Why the HKS Education Fellowship
The HKS Education Fellowship is an opportunity for a recent graduate to get direct access to top Education and Research leaders within the firm and industry who will provide mentorship and support to impact the industry for their first year at HKS.
The EDU Fellows role is truly an exciting intersection between architectural and interior design practice and research. The opportunity to spend dedicated time researching a topic of interest coupled with the opportunity to work on influential projects around the world as an entrylevel design professional on basic design and technical tasks encourages exploration and a mindset that leads with knowledge.
The application should take a candidate about 1 hour to complete and will feature the questions below. It might be helpful for a candidate to prepare responses to the short answer questions before entering the portal. More information on the program can be found below. The ideal candidate is a recent graduate with an interest in evidencebased design for learning environments.

Short Answer

- The HKS Education Fellowship involves a portion of dedicated research time in your first year in addition to working within the HKS education studio. Describe a potential topic within Education Design that youd like to research. 500 words or less)

Tip: The HKS Education Leadership and advisors will assist the selected Fellow on developing their unique Fellowship topic. This topic will be based on the Fellows interest and strategic initiatives within the HKS EDU group.
Qualifications:
- Accredited professional degree in Architecture Interior Design or related field
- Typically with 01 years of experience
- Knowledge of architectural software such as Revit Rhino AutoCAD Sketchup and related 3D modeling preferred
- Knowledge of Photoshop Illustrator and InDesign graphic software preferred
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite preferred
- Ability to communicate in a clear concise and professional manner both verbally and in writing
Where does the Education Fellow work (office location)
HKS will work with the selected Education Fellow to pair them with the HKS Office location that can best support their research interests and design mentorship. During the interview stage Fellows can relay their office preference with firm leadership and discuss that offices ability to support their research. Preliminary office location suggestions include Dallas Los Angeles Miami New York City and Raleigh due to opportunities to connect inperson with more Education sector staff.
How long does the Fellowship last
The Fellowship is a oneyear program in which the Fellow splits their time between a designated research project developed alongside their mentor team and working alongside project teams within the HKS Education Studio on a path towards licensure. At the conclusion of the Fellowship year Fellows continue working with the Education studio as an emerging design leader within the firm.
Will the Education Fellow get the opportunity to attend a conference
Education Fellows will get the opportunity to attend one educationrelated conference to support research and education during their Fellowship term coordinated through the committee members. Fellows are also encouraged to present their Fellowship research at future conferences and forums when appropriate.
