Job Description

Position Description/Duties: Exceptional ChildrenTeacher needed at Francine Delany New School for Children (FDNSC) in Asheville NC.

Francine Delany is a teacherrun school which requires full time teachers to take on leadership roles to help run the school and participate in weekly staff meetings to make administrative decisions.

Performance ResponsibilitiesEC Teacher:

  • Attend regional state and federal professional development meetings/trainings for

updates regarding requirements procedures and new programming.

  • Follow all state and federal policies and procedures for the provision of Exceptional Childrens services (including referral eligibility and services).
  • Develop (with the IEP team) and implement an Individual Educational Program for each assigned child.
  • Provide special education services for assigned students following IEP requirements and individual IEP goals.
  • Complete all paperwork assigned in a timely manner following federal timelines as required.
  • Attend all meetings for assigned students and new referrals to caseload.
  • Collect student data to measure and report progress.
  • Collaborate with general education staff to ensure the implementation of IEPs in the general education classroom monitor student progress and plan for classroom accommodations/modifications and resource lessons.
  • Communicate with parents on student progress (quarterly progress reports).
  • Demonstrate the ability to manage instructional time and student behavior.
  • Demonstrate the ability to motivate students.
  • Demonstrate the ability to consult with parents teachers administrators and the community to enhance the learning of students.
  • Demonstrate the ability to interact within the educational environment.
  • Demonstrate the ability to perform noninstructional duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelors Degree
  • Current NC Exceptional Children Licensure(or certification that would transfer from another state)
  • Experience working with children
  • Commitment to diversity equity and inclusion

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 5 years of Exceptional Children teaching experience
  • Administrative experience in EC or related program
  • Knowledge/background in social justice teaching
  • Experience in working with/promoting a diverse environment
  • Certified EC crosscategorical
  • Experience with extended content standards
  • Experience with Wilson a plus (not delivering full service
  • Special ed general and adapted curriculum preferred

Wages/Salary: State Scale with Competitive Supplement State Retirement & Benefits Dental Benefits.
