This is an onsite role at our lab in Vancouver British Columbia. The working days are Monday to Friday with Saturdays on rotation. The working hours are from 5:00 PM to 1:30 AM. The hourly rate for this position is $31.54.

Job Purpose/Overview

The Lead Laboratory Technician oversees the daytoday activities in an animal diagnostic reference laboratory performing laboratory analyses and tests. Supervises staff assigns work and evaluates results.

Supervise daytoday activities in the laboratory performing laboratory analyses

and tests

• Supervise staff assign work and monitor activities

• Resolve escalated issues

• Administer employment actions provide coaching and guidance to staff and promote staff training and development

• Provides input to department policies and procedures

• Leads work activities of the lab planning and organizing work providing adequate staffing and resources and maintaining work on schedule so that ongoing customer satisfaction is maintained

• Communicate with other related departments and laboratory supervisors and managers to coordinate work and resolve issues as needed.

• Contribute to the maintenance of department diagnostic equipment and other technical resources

• Coordinate with internal personnel vendors and others as needed to resolve issues and maintain ongoing functionality

• Train on all according to all Standard Operating Procedures

• Oversee the entering and releasing of results

• Oversee the building and packing of send outs to the main lab.

• Train on workflow and production goals

• Order and maintain an appropriate level of supplies

• Review of Quality Control Protocols

• Provide feedback regarding staff performance to leadership

• Perform other duties as assigned

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required

• 2 or 4year degree in science related field preferred or minimum of 1year clinical

• Laboratory experience

• Prior leadership experience preferred

• Laboratory skills and experience

• General science background

• Attention to detail and ability to work independently

• Ability to multitask in a fastpaced environment

• The ability to communicate information so others will understand. Must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations

• Personal computer skills strong typing ability and knowledge of Microsoft Office.

Working Conditions

• Stationary Position must be able to remain in a stationary position for up to 2 hours.

• Constantly operates a computer and other lab equipment accurately and efficiently.

• Occasionally required to bend kneel stoop or crouch

• May be required to lift move and carry up to 50 lbs.

• Heavy microscopic work

• The ability to observe details at close range.

• Proficiency in the English language which allows for participation in team meetings accurate entry of data into company systems and understanding of written directions.

• Extended hours may be needed

• Laboratory environments with potential biohazards present that are mitigated by the mandatory use of PPE.

• Work under close to moderate supervision.

• Potential for exposure to agents known to cause zoonotic disease in humans and use of potentially hazardous chemicals as defined by the National Hazard
