The mission of the New York City Police Department is to enhance the quality of life in New York City by working in partnership with the community to enforce the law preserve peace protect the people reduce fear and maintain order. The NYPD strives to foster a safe and fair city by incorporating Neighborhood Policing into all facets of Department operations and solve the problems that create crime and disorder through an interdependent relationship between the people and its police and by pioneering strategic innovation.
The Transportation Bureau enhances the quality of life in New York City by working to ensure the safe efficient and expeditious movement of traffic throughout the city. Our actions to protect the people and reduce fear are largely centered on reducing injuries that result from motor vehicle collisions. We work with the Citys governmental residential and business communities to improve traffic safety and expedite traffic flow through the appropriate deployment of traffic control resources and the judicious enforcement of the laws regarding parking and moving violations.
The selected candidate will be engaged in clerical and administrative duties which entails but are not limited to:
Filing and organizing traffic management related documents
Data entry and updating databases
Answering phones and directing calls
Preparing presentations and meeting materials
Supporting special events
Maintaining office supplies and equipment
Researching information and compiling data
Learning technical skills related to the Transportation Management Industry

Qualifications :
For Assignment Level I:
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school.
For Assignment Level II (Information Technology):
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology computer science management information systems data processing or closely related field including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study.
For Assignment Level III (Information Technology Fellow):
Matriculation at an accredited college or graduate school. Employment is conditioned upon continuance as a student in a college or graduate school with a specific course of study in information technology computer science management information systems data processing or other area relevant to the information technology project(s) assigned including or supplemented by 9 semester credits in an acceptable course of study. Appointments to this Assignment Level will be made by the Technology Steering Committee through the Department of Information Technology and Telecommunications.
SPECIAL NOTE
Maximum tenure for all Assignment Levels in the title of College Aide is 6 years. No student shall be employed more than halftime in any week in which classes in which the student is enrolled are in session. Students may be employed fulltime during their vacation periods.
