The primary purpose of the campus nurse is to implement the district school health program and provide direct services to meet the needs of students under the clinical supervision of the Health Services Coordinator or School Nurse (RN).
Education/Certication:High School diploma or GED
Valid RN / LVN Texas license issued by the Board of Nurse Examiners
Healthcare Provider CPR certification by American Heart Association or American Red Cross or willing to obtain
Preferred Certified by Texas Department of State Health Services to conduct hearing and vision screenings
Special Knowledge/Skills:Knowledge of basic first aid and health appraisal to identify student health defectsStrong organizational communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to communicate eectively (verbal and written)
Ability to use personal computer and software
Ability to implement policies and procedures
Experience:One year nursing experience

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard medical clinic equipment including automated external defibrillator (AED); special needs adaptive equipment; standard office equipment including computer and peripherals
Posture: Frequent standing sitting kneeling/squatting bending/stooping pushing pulling and twisting
Motion: Frequent walking grasping/squeezing wrist flexion/extension
Lifting: Frequent light lifting and carrying (under 15 pounds); may require regular heavy lifting 45 pounds or more) and position of students with physical disabilities; controlling behavior through physical restraint assisting nonambulatory students
Environment: Exposure to biological hazards bacteria and communicable diseases
Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress
