Job Description

About the role

We are seeking for an experienced Environment Social and Governance (ESG) analyst/consultant to join our internal audit team. Knowledge and experience of internal auditing in business or external practice is not a prerequisite for this role as full training will be provided for the successful candidate.

Lead auditors conduct audits across the businesses and operations of National Grid to provide independent assurance on the design and effectiveness of processes and controls which mitigate significant business risk. They provide recommendations to drive effective and efficient controls and processes leveraging best practices to support the business in its focus on continuous improvement.

In addition this specialist role will focus on developing the assurance methodology for ESG reporting and coordinate the development and enhancement of our audit approach in relation to ESG matters including: developing and leveraging data analytics techniques; providing advisory support to help identify ESG controls and reporting metrics; analysing the effectiveness of ESG risk assessments and controls; developing a network of specialists within business; writing and updating related guidance material; and development and delivery of ESG audit methodology training content.

This position is based in Warwick with hybrid working.

About you

Deliver assigned programme of audits with a focus on ESG matters in line with excellent quality and within allocated time using professional judgement to set the scope and testing approach to ensure key risks are addressed.
Develop and enhance the audit approach in relation to ESG matters including: developing a network of specialists within business; writing and updating related guidance material; and development and delivery of ESG audit methodology training content.
Lead ESG audit analytics and data visualisation efforts to provide ESG specific insights from audits
Proactively look for areas of improvement during the audit process and provide value adding and insightful recommendations that address control and process opportunities/ weaknesses.
Continuously communicate with Audit managers to avoid surprises and ensure audit progression.
Produce discussion documents and draft audit reports that are well written and effectively communicate the key findings and recommendations of the audit.
Own and manage a portfolio of audit actions being remediated by business and on business completion assess the effectiveness of activities undertaken to address the risks identified.
Develop and maintain strong and positive relationships with key stakeholders and maintain a thorough knowledge of the business and regulatory environment.

Inquisitive mind with a strong passion for sustainability climate change and ESG issues.
2 years of experience with ESG regulatory reporting
2 years of experience with data analytics and automation tools such as Power BI and ACL
Ability to operate and influence at strategic level; and maintain composure and professionalism in delivering insights despite potential resistance
Experience and ability to work in small teams as individual contributor or team leader including experience managing project teams and influencing others.
Highly competent in Microsoft Office (e.g. PowerPoint Excel and Word).
Knowledge process improvement methodologies (Lean/Six Sigma) and auditing software are highly attractive for this role.


A degree level education professional certification or equivalent in relevant area are essential to this role.
4 years of experience in ESG management preferably with a multinational listed energy/utility company.
