Job Description

ART TEACHER (LongTerm Substitute Art Teacher)

Dates: March 2025June 2025
Location: Lafayette School Everett MA

Art Teaching Position Summary

Everett Public Schools is seeking a passionate and dedicated Art Teacher to join our creative educational team. The Art Teacher should demonstrate expertise and knowledge in a range of 2D & 3D art techniques skills and media. The Art Teacher is responsible for utilizing pedagogical strategies to engage diverse groups of students in grades K12 through visual
arts. The Art Teacher will have a genuine passion for fostering and growing students artistic talents and selfconfidence through visual arts.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Instruction & Curriculum Development:
Plan and deliver highquality engaging handson art lessons and curriculum for all learners including students with disabilities and multilingual learners aligned with Massachusetts DESE Visual Art Frameworks districts art curriculum and the
districts goals.
Use all available technology and virtual curricula provided by the district to create engaging lessons and supports that are linked with 21stcentury skills.
Encourage student creativity and engage students through content and lessons relevant to their lives and interests.
Foster a classroom environment that promotes creativity experimentation and self expression.
Manage and maintain art supplies and materials.

Student Engagement & Support:


Manage classroom behavior with positive behavior intervention strategies and social emotional learning strategies that motivate students to create a positive learning culture.
Create and maintain a positive safe and organized classroom environment that supports an inclusive learning environment and a strong sense of belonging.
Encourage and support students artistic growth and development through individualized attention.
Provide opportunities for students to participate in art exhibitions competitions and community and school art events.
Collaborate with guidance counselors and school adjustment counselors to refer students who need socialemotional support.
Collaborate with special education leadership and teacher colleagues to review education plans and ensure all accommodations are properly and consistently delivered.

Collaborate and coplan with Special Education and EL teachers to provide the highest quality instruction and support for Special Education Students and Multilingual Learners.
Assess the needs of students and evaluate student progress towards standards and benchmarks.
Maintain a culturally responsive approach to communication with students student counselors and families on a regular basis through conferences quarterly reports and other means.

Professional Culture Collaboration & Professional Development:


Employ a strong growth mindset and participate in professional development relevant to students needs.
Maintain excellent communication skills and foster positive professional relationships with students families and staff.
Create and manage ongoing student inperson and virtual art exhibits.
Work with K12 art teachers to facilitate the annual Community Arts Night event.
Attend all building and department meetings.
Participate in all department and building professional activities.
Support the building and Art Department climate that the Principal Assistant /Vice Principals and Art Coordinator establish by supporting all building district and Art Department policies.

Required Qualifications:
Valid Massachusetts DESE teaching certification in Visual Arts PreK8 & 512.
Knowledge of Massachusetts DESE Visual Art Frameworks instruction.
Ability to communicate effectively with students teachers parents and administrators.
Demonstrate a commitment to excellence equity and high expectations for all students emphasizing building strengths that students bring to the teaching/learning process.
Ability to collect interpret and disseminate data to teachers to improve instruction and learning.
Strong classroom management skills.
Excellent written and verbal skills in English.
Exhibits positivity and excitement is receptive to feedback and contributes positively to the Art Department and school community.
Works well independently and as part of a team.
Exhibits flexibility and adaptability to adjustments of practice.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
Experience teaching art in a school setting.
Presentation of art & teaching portfolio and philosophy.

Preferred Qualifications:
Massachusetts DESE teaching certification in teaching students with disabilities.
Experience in teaching expressive arts or nonclinical art therapy approaches.

Experience working with students with disabilities including students on the autism spectrum and students with emotional disabilities.
Experience teaching 2D & 3D visual art K12 such as: drawing painting sculpture mixed media.

Coverage:
This position is needed to cover an Art Teacher who is on leave until June 2025.

Salary:
Salary for this position will be in accordance with the Collective Bargaining Agreement between the Everett School Committee and the Everett Teachers Association.
