Job Description

Holyoke Public Schools believes that all students have the right to an excellent education; our Occupational Therapists are crucial to ensuring all of our diverse learners have success in academics and life. Occupational Therapists conduct screening evaluation educational program and transition planning therapeutic intervention and exit planning is provided for students with exceptionalities. Occupational therapists are integral members of the team and regularly collaborate with other disciplines and service providers. Our therapists are expected to independently review outcomes and modify intervention programs for personal care interaction skills process skills play community integration/work and graphic communication.

Position Overview:

Evaluate and implement interventions for students with motor sensory processing and learning challenges that interfere with access to the curriculum in the least restrictive environment.

Specifics:

  1. Collaborate with and supervise occupational therapy assistants in person telecommunicating and in writing (including professional evaluations).
  2. Evaluate students with a focus on functional curricular access utilizing standardized testing as appropriate; write up detailed and professional reports following the guidelines of the department evaluation protocol.
  3. Develop IEP or 504based goals.
  4. Provide individual or small group treatments and tiered intervention/groups.
  5. Recommend and monitor adaptive equipment as necessary; train staff to use appropriately.
  6. Participate in cotreatment sessions with other disciplines.
  7. Maintain ongoing data collection in classrooms and sessions.
  8. Collaborate with school staff parents and outside providers/agencies.
  9. Participate in Special Education Team Meetings.
  10. Complete individual student progress reports in a timely fashion as required per district schedule.
  11. Complete Medicaid reimbursement documentation.
  12. Attend building based and department meetings.
  13. Participate in a professional evaluation process with supervisor and administration.
  14. Attend all required Professional Development.
  15. Service students in multiple buildings; travel between schools during work day.
  16. Follow all district directives.
  17. Follow directives as assigned.

Candidate Requirements

  • Masters degree preferred and current state licensure and certification through the Board of Allied Health.
  • Professional experience in pediatrics; preferred experience in school systems.
  • Management experience (for department head position).
