Job Description

SUMMARY:

As a Resident Engineer you will be a key member of the Bryant Construction Management Team in our Boston MA office where you will inspect of job sites for a wide range of public and private sector clients to enable their successful completion. Work will be done in support of our multidisciplinary Survey Engineering (Site/Civil Structural and Traffic) and Construction Management firm. Projects are located throughout the State of Massachusetts and mostly consist of water and sewer pipeline and treatment plants but may also include traffic and roadway projects.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Resident Engineer will perform onsite inspection of water/storm water and/or roadway/civilsite work jobs. Work is carried out with considerable independence and requires thorough knowledge of appropriate construction practices and codes.

RESPONSIBILITIES: (other duties may be assigned)

  • Manages monitors activities of assigned staff to determine that the contractors activities conform to design specifications and contractual requirements.
  • Oversees the measurement and payment of contractors quantities of work performed
  • Documents observations noncompliance and corrective/preventative actions
  • Coordinates work efforts of inspection staff testing firm and laboratories
  • Collects analyzes and organizes data to brief client on project issues. Makes suggestions for resolutions
  • Drafts and reviews responses to contractors correspondence as required
  • Provide guidance to inspection staff
  • Act as onsite liaison between client company personnel and contractor to resolve project issues
  • Coordinates work with the contractor
  • Observes all phases of construction activities for compliance with design documents and client standards
  • Documents work as performed
  • Reviews contractor requisitions for payment
  • Prepares daily reports and attends progress meetings
  • Manages quality and safety of projects and ensures schedules are met

REQUIRED SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills
  • Demonstrated ability to resolve technical issues effectively and efficiently
  • Detail oriented
  • Problem solver
  • Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills. Able to build and maintain strong relationships with contractor and the general public
  • Solid project management and organizational skills
  • Must be flexible and able to work in a fast paced environment
  • Desire to work in a team environment
  • Observes company and client safety requirements
  • Must have a valid drivers license and ability to pass a driving record check
  • Ability to pass a drug test

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

  • 10 years of related experience
  • Associates or BS in Construction Management or Civil Engineering a plus

COMPUTER SKILLS

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word Excel Outlook)
  • Proficient in SharePoint ProjectWise CM14 or other construction management software

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

N/A

TRAVEL:

Local travel to job sites and client meetings as required

  • Able to climb ladders
  • Ability to carry equipment
  • Lift 50 pounds
