Job Description

SPECIAL EDUCATION PARAEDUCATOR HOLLINGSWORTH

Day Treatment (DT)

LOCATION: Hollingsworth Academy

REPORTS TO:Principal/Program Psychologist

DEPARTMENT:Special Services

Hours / Work Times

6.5 Hours Per Day 7:40 a.m. 2:40 p.m. includes 30 minute unpaid lunch) Regular Days and Designated Full Wednesdays

4.5 Hours Per Day 7:40 a.m. 12:10 p.m. Wednesdays and Middle School EarlyRelease Days

190 days per year 180 student days/10 holidays)

This position will remain open until a qualified applicant is selected. The earliest date a recommendation for hire may be submitted is after 03/06/25.

Must meet Paraeducator Employment Requirements as follows*:

  1. Be at least eighteen 18 years of age and hold a high school diploma or its equivalent;AND
  2. Must meet one or more of the following:
  • Have received a passing score of 455 or higher on the Education Testing Service ParaPro Assessment (ETS test/PRAXIS);or
  • Hold an Associate Degree or higher from an accredited college or university;or
  • Have earned 72 quarter credits or 48 semester credits at 100 level or higher at an accredited college or university;or
  • Have completed a Paraeducator Apprenticeship Program (program must be registered with the Washington State Apprenticeship and Training Council).

*If you do not meet the required qualifications listed above your name will be screened out from the list of qualified candidates.

Upon hire new paraeducators will be required to complete state required training offered through Evergreen School District.

Classification Group:Paraeducators Class II $1.50 per hour stipend

SUMMARY STATEMENT:

Under the supervision of the Special Education Teacher and the Principal the Special Education Paraeducator will assist in the supervision of student behavior and instructional activities working closely with students on an individual as well as small group basis.

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT NECESSARY:

Computer typewriter copy machines telephone and all other tools and equipment necessary to perform the essential functions as listed above.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Basic typing/keyboarding.
  2. Previous experience working with students with emotional and behavioral disorders.
  3. Experience working with a team to develop and implement Behavior Intervention Plans.
  4. Knowledge and/or experience of child and adolescent mental health issues.
  5. Prefer knowledge and/or experience with Collaborative Problem Solving techniques.
  6. Previous experience working with students in academic areas and/or professional course work in special education.
  7. Demonstrated ability to communicate monitor supervise and manage difficult students and help them succeed.
  8. Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with staff and families.
  9. Must possess personal characteristics of flexibility initiative and cooperativeness.
  10. Must possess physical strength and ability to deal with aggressive behavior of students.
  11. Demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive information.
  12. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain positive relationships with others as part of a team.
  13. Demonstrated ability to problemsolve effectively as incidents occur.
  14. Demonstrated ability to perform under conditions of constant interruption.
  15. Demonstrated ability or willingness to learn computer skills and assistive technology.
