General Description: Adapted Physical Education Teachers provide physical education to students with severe disabilities which will allow them to access the BPS curriculum and to participate safely in both school and community life to the greatest extent possible.
Responsibilities:
Evaluation
- Adapted Physical Education Teachers will access students referred for evaluation using appropriate testing instruments.
- Adapted Physical Education Teachers will write reports that reflect the results of standardized tests and observations that contain information helpful and understandable to all involved parties and that contain clear recommendations.
- Evaluations will be performed within timelines established in state and federal regulations.
Adapted Physical Education Services
- Direct Adapted Physical Education and consultation services will be provided to students based on the individual needs of each student and in compliance with each childs IEP or 504 Plan.
- Adapted Physical Education Teachers will provide services in the least restrictive setting.
- Adapted Physical Education Teachers will participate in prereferral Team Meeting Student Support Team activities and will provide professional development to school based staff as requested.
- Adapted Physical Education Teachers will consult with other Related Services providers teachers and parents in order to provide effective services in a variety of settings.
General Responsibilities
- Adapted Physical Education Teachers are to comply with state regulations concerning renewal of Teacher Certification.
- Adapted Physical Education Teachers are expected to develop update and adhere to both a daily and weekly schedule. Each schools principal should be provided with a copy of that schedule.
- Adapted Physical Education Teachers are expected to comply with BPS rules polices and procedures as well as those of their assigned school(s) and Unified Student Services.
- Adapted Physical Education Teachers are expected to maintain records of prior planning or lessons and to keep therapy notes for each child and therapy session and to maintain accurate records of student attendance.
Required Qualifications:
- Masters or Bachelors Degree in Physical Education
- Masters Degree or advanced credentials in Moderate or Severe Special Needs
- Massachusetts License in Physical Education
- Massachusetts License in Moderate or Severe Special Needs
