Job Description
Loyola Marymount University Department of Theatre Arts and Dance offering a BA degree in Theatre Arts an MFA in Performance Pedagogy and a BA degree in Dance invites applications for a Full Time Instructor Position. The position will begin in the Fall Semester 2025.
The Department of Theatre Arts and Dance is a cogoverned department granting separate degrees in Theatre Arts and Dance. Theatre Arts and Dance share performance facilities and production faculty and staff. Design and implementation of curricular and cocurricular goals reside for the most part within the individual Programs. The Department is strongly committed to the Mission of the University and has a special concern for issues of social justice and the dialogue between faith culture and the arts.
The Department serves a diverse population of students. The Theatre Arts Program serves over 200 majors as well as dozens of minors graduate students and the general student population. Students and faculty come from increasingly diverse backgrounds: ethnic socioeconomic sexual orientation and age among others. The Department of Theatre Arts and Dance is committed to enhancing diversity and creating an inclusive learning and working environment.
Required qualifications include:
- MFAin Acting/Performance or International equivalent
- At least 3 years teaching experience at the university level
- Demonstrated expertise in teaching acting and/or actor coaching for stage and screen
- Demonstrated expertise in intimacy direction / choreography.
Desired qualifications include:
- Ability to teach a wide range of performance classes at various levels
- Knowledge of performance pedagogies
- Membership SAG/AFTRA VASTA and/or AEA.
The position requires the professor to teach courses in acting potentially including:
- Acting all levels
- Acting styles
- Acting for Camera
- Acting Pedagogy
- And other courses based on successful candidates expertise and the departments needs.
