Refugees International (RI) seeks great people from a wide variety of backgrounds and we specifically encourage members of refugee immigrant or other displaced communities to join us.

When you do join us you will be an integral contributor to a nongovernmental organization that advocates for lifesaving assistance and protection for refugees and other displaced people abiding by the humanitarian principles of humanity neutrality impartiality and independence. join the program team as an intern focused on Latin America migration policy. You will intern closely with the Senior Advocate for Latin America and conduct research related to refugee resettlement pathways security dynamics and other humanitarian challenges. You will engage on migration policy challenges with particular focus on Mexico Costa Rica and Venezuelan displacement. The internship will focus on research policy tracking assisting in organizing and attending high level meetings and writing opportunities.



ABOUT THE POSITION
You will:

  • Be enrolled as an undergraduate graduate student or have recently graduated within the past year;
  • Be seeking the internship as part of the educational experience related to the program in which they are enrolled;
  • Be fluent in Spanish with a preference for those with native proficiency;
  • Have familiarity with Latin America including political and social dynamics. Lived experience is desired but not required;
  • Have a strong interest in international refugee and humanitarian affairs;
  • Be based within the United States of America.
  • Work at least 250 hours as guided by the Senior Advocate for Latin America;
  • Work during ET hours either remotely or hybrid in the Washington DC office
  • Starting May 27th and ending no later than August 29th within the 9:00am 5:00pm EST
  • Earn a stipend of $4000.


ABOUT THE ROLE
Your daytoday responsibilities:

  • Conduct research and draft reports memos and briefs on topics related to immigration refugee policy and humanitarian affairs in Latin America.
  • Assist in the preparation and organization of meetings with working groups partners and other stakeholders.
  • Take detailed notes and providing summaries of key discussions and action items from meetings.
  • Monitor and track immigration news policy developments and emerging trends in Latin America.
  • Assist with outreach efforts including drafting communications.
