Job Description

Job Goal(s):

The overall job goal of the Night Custodian is to accomplish routine building cleaning event

setups and perform minor building maintenance.

Location of Work:

VBISD / Multiple Locations

490 S Paw Paw Street

Lawrence MI 49064

Minimum Qualifications:

Education:

High school diploma or equivalent required

Work Experience:

A minimum of one year of custodial experience is preferred

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Knowledge in custodial and maintenance work; including standard cleaning materials equipment and methods
  • Possess physical and mental capabilities in memory attention todetail following directions comprehension calculating reading writing speakingevaluating and organization
  • Ability to communicate and work well with other employees and customers
  • Ability to operate various types of cleaning garden and snow equipment
  • Ability to walk stoop kneel crouch crawl and stand for long periodsof time or work from heights
  • Ability to perform minor maintenance repairs routine preventative maintenance clean equipment and replenish supplies
  • Possess skills and knowledge of wall repair and painting
  • Ability to lift and/or move 50 lbs
  • Ability to work a flexible work week (may be required to switch a week work day with a weekend day.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Valid drivers license required
  • Sweep mop and scrub floors and other surfaces clean renovate and renew floor surface finishes vacuum spot clean and extract carpets as necessary.
  • Clean and dust furniture exhibit cases fixtures windows doors trim and related furnishings.
  • Wash and clean light fixtures replace light bulbs/tubes as necessary.
  • Move furniture supplies and miscellaneous equipment as directed.
  • Sweep or shovel snow from steps roofs and walks at building entrances and salt icy steps and walk as necessary.
  • Collect bag and dispose of trash.
  • Lock and unlock doors and windows to classrooms and offices secure buildings when facilities are not in use and guard property against fire theft and illegal entry.
  • Turn off unnecessary lighting.
  • Clean and service lavatories toilet rooms and showers.
  • Wash all interior and exterior glass including framed pictures partitions and doors.
  • Immediately report building and ground discrepancies to the maintenance supervisor or his/her designee (i.e. : HVAC and or security system not working properly roof leaks broken windows or doors outdoor lighting failing to operate.
  • Report items that require repair to the 1st Shift Building Supervisor.
  • Follow a written work schedule.
  • Assist with event setups and tear downs.
  • Work from ladders or scaffolding.
  • Maintain and operate all equipment necessary to perform assigned tasks.
  • Perform all assigned duties in a manner which contributes to the safety and well being of the staff and building occupants.
  • Help others when time is available; building a sense of teamwork.
  • Perform all custodial/maintenance duties assigned by the supervisor.
  • Regular and reliable in person attendance.

Terms of Employment: As per master agreement and provisions established by the Van Buren Board of Education.
