Job Description

This is a parttime temporary/seasonal position. Applications are accepted on an ongoing basis to establish an applicant pool. As vacancies occur they are filled from the pool.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Current First Aid and CPR certification required.

  • Must hold a Class M endorsement in the State of Nevada for a minimum of two years and be certified through the Motorcycle Safety Foundation (MSF) and approved by the Nevada Department of Public Safety / Office of Traffic Safety Nevada Rider to conduct MSF course in Nevada.

Teaching students to ride requires Rider Coaches have a certain level of fitness to ensure a quality training experience and to ensure safety for everyone on the practice range. New and currently certified Rider Coaches must be able to:

  • Lift to upright tipped over training motorcycles 60 pound boxes containing instructional material and gas cans weighing up to 40 pounds.

  • Push/pull training motorcycles weighing 300 480 pounds.

  • Bend repeatedly hold arm/hand signals and/or signs upright and walk quickly when needed.

  • Stand for long periods of time (up to eight hours).

  • Able to work in hot cold and wind outdoor conditions.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience teaching college level courses is preferred.

  • Ability to communicate effectively with college faculty staff and students.

  • Fluency in Spanish is desirable.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Teach assigned material as specified by MSF.

  • Maintain a professional conduct as outlined by MSF

  • Maintain student records including attendance and pass/fail grades

  • Administer and submit student evaluations

  • Complete incident reports as incidents occur with all documentation

  • Tag motorcycles that need repair(s). Instructor is allowed to change spark plugs and air in tires and must gas up motorcycles after the completion of the BRC class.

  • Turn completed class packet into the WNC Community Education Office after class completion with all paperwork in order.

  • Communicate with the WNC Community Education office how class went with any issues or concerns.

  • Instructors will be evaluated on their performance and adherence to the MSF curriculum Nevada Rider standards as a condition of employment.

  • Instructors must dress in accordance with MSF standards for students.

  • Attend WNC Motorcycle Safety preseason welcome back meeting.

  • Participate in student retention activities as requested.

  • Promote college educational programs and services to the communities served by WNC.

NRS 486.375 Qualifications of Instructors; standards for licensing Instructors.

1. A person who:
a. Is a resident of this State or is a member of the Armed Forces of the United States stationed at a military installation located in Nevada;
b. Is at least 21 years old;
c. Holds a motorcycle drivers license or a motorcycle endorsement to a drivers license issued by the Department;
d. Has held a motorcycle drivers license or endorsement for at least 2 years; and
e. Is certified as an Instructor of motorcycle riders by a nationally recognized public or private organization which is approved by the Director
May apply to the Department for a license as Instructor for the Program.
2. The Department shall not license a person as an Instructor if within 2 years before the person submits an application for a license:
a. The person has accumulated three or more demerit points pursuant to the uniform system of demerit points established pursuant to NRS 483.473 or has been convicted of traffic violations of comparable number and severity in another jurisdiction; or
b. The persons drivers license was suspended or revoked in any jurisdiction.
3. The Director shall adopt standards and procedures for the licensing of Instructors for the Program.
