The Offshore Wind Energy research comprises two main areas: 1 quantification of the uncertainty and estimates of the structural reliability of the structural components under extreme ocean environments and 2 development of computational fluid dynamics models for the design and optimization of turbine blades. The selected candidate is expected to have the necessary background responsible for the above two research topics and help us expand through grant proposals.
This position is funded by a grant or restricted funds. Continued employment is contingent on the renewal of grant or restricted funding.
Responsibilities:
Develop necessary computational models for blades and structures related to offshore wind energy and conduct necessary literature review.
Develop tools and conduct investigations to study uncertainties and structural reliability of the structural components.
Increase centers research productivity by developing and submitting new proposals for funding and publishing high quality journal articles and grant reports.
Supervise and mentor graduate and undergraduate students with research projects and encourage them to present and publish.
Selects and applies standard techniques of routine research well organized capable of multitasking and has excellent documentation skills.
Perform other duties as needed to assist the center director and the research team.
Required Education and Experience:
Ph.D. in Civil Engineering (structure) Ocean Engineering Mechanical Engineering or related engineering.
No prior experience needed.
Required Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
Knowledge of laboratory maintenance and equipment.
Knowledge of computers and computer software related to the position.
Preferred Education and Experience:
Experiences in MATLAB python Orcaflex FAST and Abaqus are highly desired.
Experiences in probabilistic modeling and uncertainty analyses are preferred.
Demonstrated experience with either writing or assisting with grant proposals and highquality record of publications is preferred.
Experience working with multidisciplinary teams of faculty staff and students.
