Job Description

The Center for the Study of Ethnicity Race and Immigration (CSERI) will award a number of Turner Schulman undergraduate research fellowships for projects completed during theacademic year. Applications will be accepted and reviewed on a rolling basisuntil April 30.

Students may receive grants for up to $1500 of research expenses.CSERI research support may be combined with funding from other programs.

Funding can be applied toward one of two goals:

  • Research that will contribute to the writing of a senior thesis or the completion of an independent study course during theacademic year. Costs may involve travel to libraries archives field or interview sites; data acquisition; research subject incentives transcription; etc.
  • Research assistantships (RAs) on facultydirected projects.Note that funding for assistantships will be directed to the account of the supervising professor.

All grant recipients must be prepared to present their completed research at an undergraduate seminar or poster presentation hosted by CSERI.

Turner Schulman Fellows will be invited to attend CSERIs faculty workshops and conferences with leading scholars from around the world.

Students conducting projects in the social sciences on race ethnicity and immigration in Latin America and/or Latinx politics in the United States can also apply and receive additional advisory support from the Center for Latin American and Latinx Studies. All fulltime Penn undergraduate students enrolled in any school who wish to undertake research in the social sciences relating to race ethnicity or immigration in the United States or in other countries are eligible to apply.
