Job Description

Position Summary:

The Intern Stewardship is responsible for the daily care of livestock as well as assisting in the Centers grounds maintenance and overall habitat restoration at Aullwood Audubons Charity A. Kruger Farm Discovery Center.

Compensation:

$15.00 / hour

Additional Job Description

Essential Functions

  • Assist with basic care of farm animals such as feeding watering turning out and bringing in/out on pasture; daily cleaning of stalls and bedding (horses cows pigs sheep goats poultry etc.

  • Always keep livestock areas and public spaces neat and clean

  • Assist with property beautification including weeding planting mowing gardening whacking tree trimming etc.

  • Assist with routine trail maintenance fencing inspections and habitat work

  • Maintain records of animal care and inventories as well as assist with data collection and entry

  • Assist with event setup and take down as needed

  • Additional jobrelated duties as assigned

  • Gain experience and understanding in a variety of land management conservation practices to maintain restore and rebuild a variety of habitats including innovative pasture management through rotational grazing techniques.

  • Training in land management techniques including invasive species identification and removal native plant identification etc.

  • Gain knowledge about the importance of birds to the environment and their relationship with people.

  • Connecting people to nature through engagement and conservation messaging to protect species and habitats of concern.

  • Experience working in a hemispheric professional nonprofit culture that spans all the Americas

Qualifications and Experience:

  • Working toward or completed a sciencefocused degree or lived experience

  • Experience with or willingness to be trained in animal husbandry and land conservation techniques

  • Ability to communicate effectively with staff volunteers and the public and maintain positive and effective working relationships

  • Comfortable around animals of all sizes including horses and cows

  • Excellent work ethic a teamfocused attitude and the ability to work well in the field alone or with others including staff and volunteers

  • Experience using hand and power tools such as drills hammers string trimmers blowers chainsaws machetes etc.

  • Experience driving 4WD vehicles farm and grounds equipment including but not limited to; tractors zeroturn mowers utility vehicles etc.

  • Must possess a valid drivers license

  • Ability to use standard computer equipment and software including Microsoft Outlook Word and Excel as well as Slack

  • Show commitment to Audubons organizational values of care collaboration change integrity impact and innovation

  • Demonstrated personal and professional commitment to and experience in advancing equity diversity inclusion and belonging

  • Ability to lift up to 80 lbs. regularly traverse over uneven ground and work outside in extreme temperatures and inclement weather with or without accommodation
