Job Description

JOB SUMMARY

This position primarily assists students whose first language is not English (grades K12 in English language acquisition. Contentarea assistance is a prime component at the secondary level (grades 712. Duties are performed within a classroom office or other learning space.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

This list of essential functions is not exhaustive and may be supplemented as necessary in consultation with the employee(s) involved. Duties may vary from positiontoposition or schooltoschool based on the employee(s) specific assignment.

  1. In collaboration with a certificated teacher plans and provides individual or small group instruction for Multilingual Learners; works directly with students on providing direct intervention services. May also support students with homework assignments classroom projects labs reports and test preparation in a pushin or pullout classroom setting.
  2. Administers state language proficiency assessment distributes and files score reports; in collaboration with the certificated teacher analyzes data and determines how to best meet student academic needs.
  3. Collaborates with the certificated teacher to determine which students qualify for placement testing at the beginning of the school year; tests new students and updates Multilingual Learner student rosters.
  4. Establishes positive working relationships with students families teachers staff community and other ELD para educators.
  5. Communicates student progress to ELD teacher classroom teacher intervention teacher specialists or other school staff etc. as appropriate.
  6. Assists in the development and maintenance of a safe and welcoming learning environment to help students feel a sense of belonging. Recognize and celebrate the students home language culture and diversity as an asset.
  7. Attends district ELD staff meetings training and professional development classes and may attend onsite staff meetings.
  8. While not required bilingual staff may use additional languages to assist students in English language acquisition.
  9. Performs related duties consistent with the job description and employee assignment.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIP

Reports to the Building Administrator ELD Teacher or as assigned.

WORKING CONDITIONS

Works in a classroom office or other learning space to support Multilingual Learners; when necessary may need to travel between various assigned work locations; may support students and families with conflict resolution.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education and Experience

To meet the new Every Student Succeed Act (ESSA) this position requires that applicant either hold an associate degree or higher college credit equivalency 72 quarter or 48semester credits) or have graduated from High School and passed the ETS ParaPro Assessment with a score of 455 or higher.

Crisis Prevention Institute (CPI) training or equivalent is required. Training is provided upon hire.

Licenses/Special Requirements

Ability to operate computers and willingness to adapt to new technology.

SALARYSalary is based upon the currentESP Salary Schedule Salary(Level I); placement on the salary schedule will be determined by Human Resources DOE. FLSA NonExempt.
