Taproot Community Support Services (formerly WJS Canada) works to improve the lives of persons in their communities through a variety of programs and services.
This lifetime home supports 2 male personsserved with complex high behaviours living with developmental disabilities and other mental health challenges.
Taproot Community Support Services staff encourage these individuals to live a full life with personalized care that maximizes independence supports unique strengths and qualities and encourages community involvement.
The disability services worker (DSW) under supervision of his/her supervisor facilitates and monitors education and development programs for purposes of providing individuals in service with physical behavioural emotional and social supports/supervision in residence and in the community. Disability service workers develop relationships and act as a liaison with the community family members guardians and employers. This position reports to the team leader.
This position requires union membership with CUPE 1099.
This is a 24hr home in Vegreville that provides supports to personsserved at home through assistance that encourages independent living in pursuit of their goals with an active social life in the community
Previous experience with complex behavior supports is an asset.
If persons served become escalated they may express verbal and physical aggression property damage sexual innuendos towards staff and require deescalation support according to their personal behavior support plan.
The individuals provide independent personal care but may require prompting to have baths teeth/hair brushing and cleanliness.
An additional $3.30 per hour will be paid when supporting complex needs clients. This additional amount does not apply to scheduled trainings/meetings and noncomplex shifts.
Scheduling:
One 1 permanent fulltime position that will work 12 hours shiftson a 2week rotation schedule:
Week 1 Monday Tuesday Friday Saturday
Week 2 Sunday Wednesday Thursday
Support individuals to build life skills and social/occupational skills independence and encourage participation and social interaction within the community.
Teach/assist the client with daily household tasks (food preparation laundry cleaning etc) and light personal care (grooming dental care bathing)
Drive individual in your own vehicle to appointments day programs community events etc..
Contribute toward design implementation and evaluation of individual service plans program specific policies & procedures.
Communicate/document information that relates to program changes/service recipient changes to peers ministry representatives and other stakeholders as required.
Observe/document needs of individuals in service.

*** Prior to confirmation of employment all applicants must provide a current (dated within 6 months of hiring date) Criminal Record Check and Ministry Check. These checks can take up to 6 weeks to obtain please ensure you prepare accordingly.
Previous experience with complex behavior supports is an asset.
Other experience such as Nursing Education Assistant Personal Support Worker or Health Care Aide may be considered.
High School Diploma or GED
MANDATORY A valid Class 5 Driver License clear driving abstract and reliable vehicle with suitable insurance.
Experience supporting clients/patients with autism an asset.
A positive attitude and belief that persons with disabilities have the right to define/pursue their life choices and participate in community events employment and recreation.
Skills in assisting individuals in anger management daily living self help etc.
First Aid/CPR Certification
Crisis Prevention Intervention Medication Administration Abuse Protocol Proactive Procedures and Behavioural Strategies Foundations and Disabilities Training
Knowledge of basic health and safety rules and guidelines for personal health and safety as appropriate.
