Position Summary:
The Weld Engineer will be responsible for developing welding techniques procedures and the application of welding equipment to address challenges involving the fabrication of metals. This role involves conducting research and development to enhance existing welding processes and equipment as well as developing new methods and techniques to improve efficiency and quality.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct investigations to develop and test new fabrication processes and procedures.
- Evaluate new developments in the welding field for potential application to current welding challenges or production processes.
- Prepare technical reports resulting from research development and preventive maintenance investigations.
- Establish welding procedures to guide production and welding personnel regarding specification restrictions and material processes.
- Ensure the welding department meets all NADCAP and customer requirements leading all weld audits including NADCAP certification and customer audits.
- Direct and coordinate technical personnel in performing inspections to ensure compliance with established welding procedures and standards.
- Provide training and certification for all welders weld operators and weld inspectors.
- Collaborate with Human Resources to maintain records and ensure all training/certification documentation is current.
- Research evaluate justify and recommend capital equipment for the welding area.
- Prepare capital project requests and manage their implementation.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in Welding Engineering Materials Science Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
- Two to four years of related experience and/or training; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Strong knowledge of semiautomated Gas Tungsten Arc Welding (GTAW) processes.
- Additional knowledge of resistance and laser welding is preferred.
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to read analyze and interpret general business periodicals professional journals technical procedures or governmental regulations.
- Proficiency in calculating figures and amounts such as discounts interest commissions proportions percentages area circumference and volume.
