WAGE: Starting at $21.00 per hour based on experience

Program Summary
Schools Uniting Neighborhoods (SUN) Community Schools are a schoolbased service delivery model in collaboration with Multnomah County and the David Douglas Schol District. SUN Schools provide a comprehensive set of social services in the school communities we serve.


Position Summary
IRCOs SUN Community Schools is currently offering a class for newcomer students in the David Douglas school district. The class will focus on creating a stronger sense of belonging for an identified set of newcomer students. Programming will include 18 classes occurring twice a week and every other Friday for seven weeks total. There will also be one evening family engagement event. The SUN Newcomer Teacher will be expected to create and implement lesson plans that support academics build community and support SEL in students. Classes are during after school hours inperson and are located at Gilbert Heights Elementary and Menlo Park Elementary in DDSD.


Essential Functions

  • Be able to follow all school district and IRCO safety protocols related to working with youth in school communities
  • Treat youth and fellow staff respectfully while executing classroom management and adhering to school rules
  • Create develop and implement ageappropriate curriculum for newcomer youth for 18 class sessions
  • Record and report accurate attendance to SUN Manager
  • Encourage and assist youth with homework
  • Communicate effectively with SUN Site Manager and parents about students success concerns or questions
  • Support one Newcomer Family Night event between April 2025 June 2025

Secondary Functions

  • Ability to develop culturally responsive and respectful relationships with students their families and all community members we serve
  • Ability to use good judgment when working with youth in a school setting
  • Experience working in or delivering services in a school setting
  • Actively work to disrupt racism and systematic oppression through inclusive program practice and implementation
  • Utilize bilingual skills to support culturally specific communication to students families and clients in their preferred language when possible
Requirements

Education & Experience

MINIMUM JOB SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Must be 18 years old or older
  • Ability to pass a criminal background check through the Oregon Department of Education
  • Familiarity working in a publicschool setting
  • Experience creating and implementing lesson plans
  • Basic understanding of Social Emotional Learning (SEL) best practice
  • Be a consistent and reliable staff member by arriving on time for all shifts
  • Effectively communicate work availability and absences
  • Effectively work with youth and adults from diverse backgrounds
  • Understand the role of mandatory reporter and communicate any concerns related to student safety to the SUN Manager in a timely manner

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Currently working in either Gilbert Heights or Menlo Park Elementary school in DDSD
  • Currently working with English learners or newcomer elementary students
  • Experience facilitating groups of 15 or more youth
  • Bilingual or bicultural applicants are preferred

Physical Mental & Environmental Requirements

  • In person on a public elementary school campus
  • Temporary position through June 30 2025

Supervisory Responsibilities

Positions at this level are not responsible for any supervisory functions or responsibilities but may occasionally be asked to orient and/or train new employees or volunteers.


Required Engagement
