Job Description

I. Purpose

The Retirement Business Analyst position is responsible for daytoday administration of the Associations defined benefit (DB) (cash balance plan) 457 plan and defined contribution (DC) 401(k) retirement plans. The position also will provide analytical and technical support for the budget.

II. Key Responsibilities

  1. Responsible for the daytoday administration of the retirement plans including contribution/funding and distribution reconciliations analyze and ensure plan design according to the Plan document
  2. Monitor document communicate and ensure the legal and regulatory compliance and requirements of the defined benefit plan (including cash balance feature) and defined contribution plans including reading review understand legislative changes affecting the retirement plan
  3. Design and execute retirement planning education curriculum for retirement benefit orientation meetings and retirement education sessions for staff
  4. Maintain internal accounting and pension record control schedule
  5. Participate in annual pension and financial audits
  6. Serve as a primary resource to design prepare and deliver key management reports including metrics comparable analysis of business performance results trends and risk area
  7. Assist in the development and communication of guidelines timelines and resources to support the associations budget processes
  8. Perform and complete other projects assigned to meet business needs including ad hoc and routine reports and analysis to internal and external stakeholders

IV. Autonomy & Decision Making:

Incumbent works under the direction of the Director Finance and have authority to complete objectives established to implement policy and procedures. The incumbent has latitude in how assignments are executed and is expected to exhibit and practice sound technical skills independence of thought and initiative.

V. Qualifications & Skills

Qualifications:

Knowledge typically acquired through:

  • Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or related business degree required
  • 58 years of relevant business experience
  • At least 2 5 years of experience with defined benefit (cash balance plan experience preferred) and defined contribution pension administration
  • Certified Employee Benefit Specialist (CEBS)Retirement Plans Associate (RPA) a plus

Skills

  • Familiarity with ERISA DOL regulations and GAAP guidelines
  • Comprehensive knowledge of the principles of accounting and budgeting
  • Demonstrated ability to understand the Internal Revenue Code (IRC) and how it applies to pension plans
  • Demonstrated ability to collect and analyze data from a variety of sources to inform decisionmaking
  • Demonstrated knowledge and experience with automated financial accounting systems
  • Strong mathematical problemsolving and analytical skills
  • Demonstrated ability to manage and implement multiple tasks simultaneously and to prioritize effectively
  • Demonstrated ability to facilitate groups and achieve consensus
  • Proven interpersonal oral and written communications skills in both formal and informal contexts
  • MS Office skills Outlook Word Excel and PowerPoint at an advanced level
