Job Description
Primary Purpose:
To enable students in the assigned area to pursue their education as smoothly and completely as possible in the absence of the regular teacher.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Be dependable and of high moral character
Ability to work well with children
Effective communication and interpersonal skills
Experience:
Some experience working with children
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Strategies
- Maintain as fully as possible the established routines and procedures of the school and classroom to which he is assigned
- Supervises the lessons outlined and described in the Substitute Teachers Guide as prepared by the absent teacher.
- Consults with the building principal before initiating any teaching or other procedures not specified in the regular teachers plans.
- Verifies with the school secretary that his attendance will or will not be required on the following teaching day.
- Follows all policies rules and procedures to which regular teachers are subject and which good teaching practice dictates.

- Maintain confidentiality
- Maintain positive and effective communications and relationships with supervisors and colleagues.
- Perform other duties as assigned.

Mental Demands/Physical Demands/Environmental Factors:
Tools/Equipment Used: Copier personal computer and audiovisual equipment
Posture: Prolonged standing; frequent kneeling/squatting bending/stooping pushing/pulling and twisting
Motion: Frequent walking
Lifting: Regular light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds); may lift and move text books and classroom equipment
Environment: Work inside may work outside; regular exposure to noise
Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress; work prolonged or irregular hours
