- Interior Community Services is a Municipal Pension Plan (MPP) employer. Parttime employees entitlement to MPP is determined based on the length of service and accrued wages. If the candidate is already a contributing member then enrollment is on hire.

ABOUT THE JOB:
The Residence Worker provides dedicated support to an adult with diverse abilities in a supported home environment. They promote the residents quality of life by encouraging independence maximizing wellbeing and enhancing social participation.
Responsibilities include:
- Collaborates with the resident caregivers and other community professionals to assess needs and develop and attain individual goals. Adjusts goals and strategies as required.
- Assesses personal care and health needs and performs care as required.
- Plans and facilitates activities that support the residents independence and encourage meaningful community connections.
- Prepares and provides healthy meals and snacks ensuring the residents specific dietary needs are met.
- Manages general household tasks including meal planning and preparation shopping laundry yard maintenance and minor household repairs.
- Administers medication following agency procedures.
- Supports the resident in selfadvocacy and liaises with social workers community resources family etc.
- Teaches relationshipbuilding skills while fostering selfesteem selfadvocacy and healthy lifestyle choices.
- Assists the resident in managing personal finances as needed.
- Schedules and provides transportation for the resident using the program accessibility van for medical optical and dental appointments family visits recreational outings etc.
- Recognizes and responds to potential risks and emergency situations to minimize harm to the resident staff and/or the public. Takes proactive measures to prevent potential escalations.
- Manages the residential budget including clear and accurate documentation of petty cash and spending.
- Maintains daily logs and documentation related to the residents activities wellbeing and progress.
- Ensures all required documentation is complete timely and accurate.
EDUCATION TRAINING and EXPERIENCE:
- Community and School Support Worker Resident Care Aide or Home Support Worker Certificate
- One 1 year of recent related experience working with seniors with developmental diverse abilities
- Or a combination of education training and experience.
SKILLS KNOWLEDGE and ABILITIES:
Demonstrated knowledge and strong abilities to:
- Build healthy trusting relationships with all involved parties including the individual colleagues supervisors community professionals care teams and family members
- Respond appropriately to challenging behaviours crisis situations and aggression
- Provide life skills support using a strengthsbased approach
- Develop and implement clientfocused schedules plans and goalsetting methods
- Work effectively independently and as a strong contributing member of a team
- Follow directions and implement strong critical and analytical thinking in the work applying appropriate policies and procedures
- Take initiative notice what needs to be done in the program and follow through
- Manage conflict effectively
- Provide clear and accurate written documentation
- Run and maintain a home including shopping cleaning yard work cooking budgeting and meal planning.
- Cook healthy nutritional meals
REQUIREMENTS
- Valid BC Class 4 Unrestricted Drivers License
- BC Class 5 DL is accepted with the condition of ability to obtain a Valid Class 4 Unrestricted drivers license within the probationary period. (Reimbursement available for the costs)
- A safe driving record
- Access to a reliable vehicle is an asset
- Physical abilities to provide the individual with personal care and recreational activities indoors and outdoors. Including supporting in wheelchairs and walkers carrying lifting transferring pushing pulling bending assisting safely in and out of bed and bath and using lifts and other health equipment appropriately.
- Following training is required and provided to the successful candidate free of charge. Existing certification is an asset: CPRC MandtRCT SafeTalk Safe Food Handling Medication Management CLBC Privacy AntiBullying and Harassment.
- Criminal record check with vulnerable sector search through the BC Ministry of Public Safety and Solicitor General is required.
- This job requires union membership with a 1.85 union due deducted from pay.
