Job Description

SUMMARY:

Provide physical therapy services to students with physical disabilities as directed by a supervising physical therapist licensed by the Texas Board of Physical Therapy Examiners. Provide therapeutic intervention to eliminate or reduce problems or impairments that interfere with students ability to derive full benefit from the educational program.

  • Provide program support and service delivery; communicate effectively within and across teams and participate in crossfunctional work groups.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES

Therapy

  • Provide direct and consultative services consistent with physical therapy goals contained in students Individual Education Plans (IEP) as directed by the supervising licensed Physical Therapist.
  • Evaluate student progress and make recommendations regarding physical therapy services.

Consultation

  • Conduct oneonone consultation with teachers aides parents and others to apprise them of individual student needs and requirements related to the students physical therapy as directed by the supervising licensed Physical Therapist.
  • Assist in the selection of equipment and adaptive materials.

Student Management

  • Create an environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the maturity level and interests of students.
  • Establish control and administer discipline according to the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.

Program Management

  • Compile maintain and file all reports records and other documents required including maintaining clinical records in accordance with federal and state laws and regulations.
  • Comply with policies established by federal and state laws State Board of Education rule and board policy. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.

Policy Reports and Law

  • Maintain confidentiality.
  • Develop and maintain systems for retrieval of information in support of all programs; compile maintain file and secure all physical and computerized reports records and other required documents.
  • Pursue Professional Development activities for self and assigned staff; ensure that Professional Development activities are aligned with District goals and initiatives and current professional research.
  • Comply with all policies operating procedures legal requirements and verbal and written directives.
  • Comply with the Professional Code of Ethics and Standard Practices for Texas
  • Follow District safety protocols and emergency procedures.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS:

Education/Certification:

  • Associates degree from an accredited physical therapy assistant program
  • Current Texas PTA license

Experience:

  • Two 2 years of successful experience as a physical therapy assistant
  • Pediatric or schoolbased experience preferred

SPECIAL KNOWLEGDGE/SKILLS/ABILITIES:

  • Strong communication organizational and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of speechlanguage disorders and conditions

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITES:

  • None

MENTAL/PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND ENVIRONMENTAL FACTORS:

Tools/Equipment Used:

  • Physical therapy equipment; special need adaptive equipment; standard office equipment including computer and peripherals

Posture:

  • Frequent standing; kneeling/squatting bending/stooping pushing/pulling and twisting

Motion:

  • Frequent walking grasping/squeezing wrist flexion/extension

Lifting:

  • Regular heavy lifting 45 pounds or more) and positioning of students with physical disabilities; controlling behavior through physical restraint; assisting nonambulatory students

Environment:

  • Exposure to biological hazards bacteria and communicable diseases
  • May require districtwide travel
  • No remote work

Mental Demands:

  • Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under pressure
