Job Description

The Role:

The Department is seeking a highly experienced Cyber Security Systems Engineer to contribute to the successful delivery of cyber security systems that support the departments security requirements.

Key duties and responsibilities

  • System Readiness and Availability: Ensure security systems are prepared available and capable of meeting user requirements.
  • Integration of New Systems:Onboard and integrate new systems with security tools.
  • Data Hygiene and Quality: Ensure data hygiene and quality requirements are met maintaining consistency across all systems and data sets (e.g. CIM compliance).
  • Secure System Configuration: Configure systems securely including but not limited to:
    • Following the principle of least privilege.
    • Adhering to vendor and industry best practices in system configuration.
    • Complying with security requirements outlined in the ISM and ASD Essential 8.
  • Documentation Maintenance: Maintain documentation for both new and existing systems.
  • Research and Advisory: Conduct research and provide informed advice on the suitability of current and future systems to meet the departments security needs.
  • System Maintenance and Upgrades: Perform system maintenance and upgrades ensuring sufficient testing and user notification prior to commencement.
  • Process Automation: Develop automations to streamline repetitive processes where possible.

Skills and Experience Required:

1. Experience securely configuring and maintaining enterprise IT systems

2. Technical experience with automation tooling (e.g. Splunk SOAR or Microsoft Power Platform)

3. Experience with query languages & scripting languages (e.g. SPL KQL SQL Python PowerShell Bash)

4. Ability to identify and troubleshoot enterprise IT system problems

5. Ability to communicate effectively with technical and nontechnical stakeholders across IT

6. Relevant qualifications or experience in information technology computer science or related disciplines

Location and Contract Term: This role is based in ACT. 12 month contract with 2x12month extension option pending budget and delegate approval.

Security Requirements: Applicants must be Australian Citizens. A NV1 security clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain is required.
