Job Description

Labcorp is hiring a Director Interpretation Software Engineering. The Director of Interpretation Software Engineering oversees and guides a team of engineering leaders to develop a scalable clinical reporting platform and industryleading variant interpretation services. This function plays a critical role in enabling the processing of clinicalgrade NGS samples to generate accurate and reliable variant interpretations.

In this role you will lead teams in developing innovative engineering methodologies and solving complex technical challenges. You will establish strategic plans and objectives for the function while contributing to the development of processes techniques and evaluation criteria for programs leaders and individual contributors. Your decisions will have a significant impact on the success of the function and the achievement of broader organizational goals.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Takes accountability and responsibility for delivering against strategic objectives in the 12 year horizon.
  • Guides a group to deliver outcome and impact despite significant organizational strategic and technical ambiguity and change.
  • Actively levels up engineering and nonengineering teams through organizational or people insights and initiatives.
  • Anticipates and mitigates challenges for the entire engineering organization.
  • Holds the managers they support accountable for the planning oversight and delivery of results that drive outcomes and impact.
  • Works with nonengineering stakeholders to ideate articulate and plan longterm business strategies for a group.
  • Owns and drives all aspects of talent within a group.
  • Drives the most important longterm priorities that deliver customer outcomes and company impact.
  • Champions a highperformance culture across the company.

Technical Delivery:

  • Balances teams operational excellence innovation and speed in alignment with companywide goals.
  • Deeply understands what is happening in the business and in the industry.
  • Drives the longterm vision of a group using business and industry trends as an input.
  • Resolves crossteam misalignments that block the ability to move forward on strategic choices.
  • Understands when it is appropriate to shut down initiatives that arent creating value and when to restructure a groups roles and goals.
  • Takes action to ensure any shutdowns or restructures are done gracefully and with empathy.

Ownership and Growth:

  • Actively reviews and trims the work happening across a group.
  • Ensures that the work happening across a group is aligned with the companys business objectives.
  • Prioritizes the groups investments appropriately.
  • Elevates engineering or companywide standards while coaching direct reports on how to do the same.

Leadership and Collaboration

  • Drives transformation generates excitement for change and helps other leaders champion changes.
  • Generates ideas pushes the boundaries and takes calculated risks to drive the greatest companywide impact.
  • Creates an environment that fosters innovation and helps teams take calculated risks.
  • Consistently grows great managers that are able to lead teams effectively identify talent and manage dysfunctions on their teams.
  • Evangelizes team best practices and hiring strategies to other leaders within the company.

Communication

  • Communicates complex unpopular or challenging ideas with conviction to gain commitment from others.
  • Regularly engages in managementlevel communication.
  • Represents the company effectively in external settings.
  • Influences and builds relationships with leaders and management across the company.
  • Shapes the culture and personifies the values of the company.
  • Proactively surfaces cultural issues and solicits feedback about culture.
  • Works with the managers in a group to address any lapses in team culture and prevent the lapse in the future.

REQUIREMENTS

  • Requires a minimum of 15 years of related experience with a Bachelors degree in Molecular Biology Genetics Biology Bioinformatics or similar background ; or 12 years and a Masters degree; or a PhD with 8 years of experience. Any equivalent combination of training education and experience that provides the required skills knowledge and abilities.
  • Experience leading software engineering teams focused on meeting Clinical and Regulatory requirements.
  • 6 years of leadership experience recommended.
  • Current or previous Labcorp employees preferred.
  • Preference given to those with a background in biology. Able to understand the science but also able to understand the technical side.
  • Experience working in a regulated environment.
  • Strong ability to collaborate negotiation and priority setting.
  • Job must be executed within the US territory at all times due to compliance reasons.

Pay Range: $annual salary

All job offers will bebased on a candidates skills and prior relevant experience applicabledegrees/certificationsas well as internal equity and market data. The position is also eligible for an annual bonus under the Labcorp Bonus Plan. Bonuses are payable based on corporate and/or business segment performance and are subject to individual performance modifiers.

Benefits: Employees regularly scheduled to work 20 or more hours per week are eligible for comprehensive benefits including: Medical Dental Vision Life STD/LTD 401(k) Paid Time Off (PTO) or Flexible Time Off (FTO) Tuition Reimbursement and Employee Stock Purchase Plan.
