Highland Electric Fleets electrificationasaservice (EaaS) model aims to make electric school buses and other clean heavy duty vehicles attainable for every district across the US and Canada. Our turnkey solution tackles financing vehicle procurement infrastructure upgrade and maintenance to create a reliable and affordable fleet for our customers.

We know that cleaner buses create healthier communities and its our mission to eliminate the barriers to better student health and cleaner air just 10 electric buses will reduce the pediatric asthma risk for 1500 students!*

The Director of Engineering will lead Highlands research development engineering and testing initiatives to drive innovation reliability and costeffectiveness in EV and charging solutions. This role involves overseeing Highlands R&D facilities spearheading technology advancements leading troubleshooting and diagnostic efforts and ensuring compliance with quality and safety standards.

The Director of Engineering will also collaborate across teams to enhance Highlands competitive edge and support the companys mission in electric transportation.

Key Responsibilities:

    • Lead the companys R&D and engineering initiatives and facilities driving innovation in EV and charging technologies while maintaining costeffectiveness and ensuring reliability.
    • Oversee all research and development efforts in EV charging interoperability and vehicle technology to enhance Highlands capabilities while continuously evaluating the reliability of new technologies.
    • Manage the evaluation of asset performance and user experience to guide product improvements.
    • Supervise root cause analysis of failures to identify the source of issues and develop proactive procedures to prevent recurrence.
    • Oversee all vehicle and charger testing including stress fatigue and environmental evaluations as well as rebuilds and retrofits to optimize system performance.
    • Establish and implement a technology development center focused on training technicians in diagnostics troubleshooting and advancements in EV technology.
    • Plan manage and execute product quality assurance and quality control measures within manufacturers production plants to ensure compliance with specifications and federal state and local regulations.
    • Foster a strong team culture that promotes innovation collaboration continuous improvement and technical excellence within the department.
    • Support the infrastructure and energy teams with microgrid projects and behindthemeter integrations.
    • Perform product competitive benchmarking to identify industry trends gaps and growth opportunities
    • Monitor government policies sustainability initiatives and emerging industry trends to ensure Highland remains at the forefront of EV advancements.

Qualifications:

    • Bachelors degree (ideally in Engineering Engineering Technology or Mechanical Engineering)
    • At least 10 years of experience in Automotive Engineering (combination of heavy medium and light duty vehicle maintenance and repair) and product design and development
    • At least 4 years of experience managing technical professionals and technical staff in engineering and research and development
    • Proven experience in electric vehicle diagnostics and troubleshooting
    • Strong knowledge of Testing and Validation Process
    • Demonstrated expertise in data analysis and reporting to senior leadership
    • Knowledge of manufacturing or quality assurance is a plus
    • Strong leadership organizational and communication skills
    • Ability to manage budgets and resources effectively
